Fauntleroy Church

Fauntleroy Church We recognize the diversity of families and the ways God calls us into relationships. Fauntleroy Church seeks to nurture and support the commitments they make.

Seeking to follow Christ and live God's wide and wonderful love, Fauntleroy Church UCC welcomes and affirms people of all races, colors, genders, gender identities or expressions, sexual orientations, national origins, abilities and ages. Fauntleroy Church, United Church of Christ, is a covenantal community of faith where all people are recognized as being made in God's image, reconciled by Christ

and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We are committed "to seek God's will in creating a supportive Christian community, providing an environment of love, trust, openness and joy, enabling us to explore and strengthen our personal faith and to express this faith in the wider community." Our understanding of the nature of God's love, revealed in Jesus' ministry and his commission to his disciples, challenges us to reach out and accept all people unconditionally. Our understanding of God's justice proclaimed by prophets and embodied in Jesus challenges Fauntleroy Church to join with all people, including LGBTQIA+ persons in their struggle against violence, prejudice and discrimination. Fauntleroy Church, United Church of Christ, intentionally welcomes and affirms all persons, regardless of race, color, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, abilities or age as we seek to fulfill Christ's commission to live as the family of God.

Join us tomorrow at 10AM, in person and online, as we weave a celebration of Juneteenth through our worship. Juneteenth honors the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the emancipation of enslaved Black people there—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. It wasn’t the day slavery legally ended in the United States, but it was the day when freedom—already proclaimed—was finally delivered, through presence, courage, and witness.

Huge thanks to Miss Linda Upshaw and Connie Thompson for adding their voices to this worship of witness through some special music and their reflection about the ways the Black Church provided—and still provides--a center of survival, culture, mutual care, and personal dignity. In their words, worship was the ultimate celebration of freedom and of reclaiming one's fully human, divinely loved being—which is exactly what Juneteenth is about. At the heart of worship will be the story of Cain and Abel as we start exploring some of Genesis this summer. And at the heart of the story of Cain and Abel is the question, "Am I my brother's keeper?" How many times does God need to remind us "Yes! Yes, you are"? Let's gather tomorrow and embrace that reminder of responsibility for that radical love until it is fully realized.

There is no better way to follow Christ than to be LOUD WITH LOVE. Here's an offering of love for all you trans beloveds of God:

"Trans Love Poems" by Rev. Anna K Blaedel

every morning, I awake wanting to wrap
every trans person in a love poem.
and then, I remember we are love poems --
whispered, shouted, sung,
& slipped into the heart pockets of each other.

we are poems & prayers & whole worlds of possibility.
we are love poems & symphonies, moonlight & stardust,
sacred & powerful.

may you hold this knowing close;
may you return to it as needed.
may you -- may we -- feel wrapped in the t4t love
that has woven us, and weaves us, still.

for you, today, i pray:
i pray for gentleness. for ease. for protection. for rest.
i pray for a chance to breathe, to weep, to rage, to ground, to heal.
i pray for encounters in which you feel seen, known, understood.
i pray all that is gloriously beyond seeing, knowing, & understanding is held, with kindness & devotion.
i pray you have what you need: nourishment. home.
kinship. belonging.
i pray you know: we need you here.
i pray that today, someone looks in your eyes and says:
you are beauty-full. you are brave. you are powerful.
you are divine.

just as you are & as you are becoming.

(i pray you can look in the mirror & say this to yourself, too.)

Join us this Sunday for worship at 10AM, in person or online. We will celebrate our confirmation class and express our gratitude for their amazing mentors. This special worship will be co-led by our youth and be a feast of celebrations, including a baptism, new members joining, and communion. This also will be an intergenerational worship. It is so good for our younger children to see the joy ahead on their own faith journeys. And...it will take all of us--all ages and stages of believers, seekers, and even doubters--to wrap some holy-spirited Fauntleroy Church love around these wonderful youth. (Childcare is available for infants through age 4.)

For several years, we’ve participated in a wood stove project in Guatemala. This year several of our members will help to install water tanks and a rainwater collection system for 120 families in Blanca Flor—access to clean water without a daily two-mile hike to collect it. Water is essential to health!

And they’re off! Members of the West Seattle Rotary Club and Fauntleroy Church are once again traveling to Guatemala, this time to install a rainwater collection system in the village of Blanca Flor. Learn more at https://westseattlerotary.org/guatemala-stove-project-copy/.
