RE Sunday
Sunday, July 26
10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Downstairs in the Social Hall

This Sunday in RE we will be focusing on nature and sacred connection to earth through mindful nature reflection and painting rocks.

Nature reflection will invite children and youth to slow down, notice, wonder, and connect with the natural world and with their own inner lives. This practice encourages mindfulness, curiosity, and a sense of sacredness in nature.
Our usual RE activity stations will also be available, such as playsilks, zine making, values coloring pages, and costuming.

WSUU is Joining in a Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Alabama in November

This November, we invite you to join members of WSUU as we travel to Alabama for a public pilgrimage on the ground where the Civil Rights movement unfolded. This pilgrimage will be led by the Living Legacy Project which, for over fifteen years, has led UUs and others from more than 25 states through the sites, the stories, and the communities that made the Civil Rights Movement possible. The dates of the pilgrimage are November 9 – 13.

WSUU community members who participate in the pilgrimage will leave thinking differently than when they arrived. Not because anyone told us what to think--but because the ground itself has a way of making things clear.

At a moment when this history is being actively contested, bearing witness is not a passive act. Showing up is a form of preservation. Knowing this history, carrying it home, passing it on: that is how it survives.

Interested? You can join the interest list and find the details of the pilgrimage in the Westside Week. Registration is still open, though we’d advise confirming participation as soon as possible. We encourage you to talk to Rev. Carter, Tracy Burrows, or Cindy Jackson, to learn more about this life-changing opportunity for WSUU members and friends.

Leaning into Abundance
Aisha Hauser M.S.W. with Lisa Reitzes
Music by Scott Farrell

Robin Wall Kimmerer takes us on a journey illustrating how nature teaches us the lessons of abundance and reciprocity. We will explore her book The Serviceberry, and lean into the ways we can show up for each other and build a better world.

Family Potluck and Play Date in the Park
Location: Westcrest Playground area

Families are invited to a potluck and play in the park date this Sunday, July 19, 10:30 am - 12:00 noon at Westcrest Park near the playground area.

Please email [email protected] if you want to carpool from the church parking lot; otherwise we'll plan to meet you at the park. Families can meet us directly at Westcrest Park. We recommend parking in the lot off of 8th Ave SW with its entrance between SW Cloverdale St and SW Trenton St near the restrooms in the northwest area of the park.

Westcrest Park is located at 9000 8th Ave. SW, Seattle, WA 98106 on a hill above and west of Boeing Field in southwest Seattle. It contains approximately 8.4 acres and features open spaces and paths, newly improved play areas, restrooms and lots of open space. Please note there is very little shade near the playground, please bring unscented sunscreen, your shade umbrella or your favorite sunhat if you need shade.

There are picnic tables and benches at the park near the playground so you don't have to bring chairs but are welcome to. Feel free to bring snacks to share but we’ll have some for all.

WSUU Parent Caregiver Group isn't meeting at church over the summer. Instead, we're joining the fun of potlucks and play dates at local parks. All Westside families are welcome!
