"The civil rights movement set the stage for the q***r rights movement because of its power and grace when confronted with the ugliness of prejudice, hatred, and violence. Black and q***r folk share in existential themes of oppression.

We have so much to teach: how to be persecuted but not forsake our democratic values, how to be cast down but not out, and how to meet legislative setbacks with existential victories."

✨️

Rev. Osagyefo Sekou shares his wisdom and life work in humility and love, inviting us into the practice of liberation while claiming and reclaiming the lineage of a Christian tradition that refuses to allow oppression to have the final word.

On Sunday, following a powerful reflection on her time in the Philippines from Rev. Dr. DeAnza Spaulding Sekou (catch the replay on YouTube!), Rev. Sekou offered this blessing as he led our community in song together.

✨️

Now unto him who is able to keep you
from falling, and to present you faultless
before the only wise God our Savior,
be both glory, majesty, dominion, power
both now and forevermore.

✨️

Thank you, to our beloved Pastors. Thank you.

Great Mystery, we pray for all who live with mental health challenges and their loved ones.

When the night is long and tomorrow seems uncertain, grant us peace.

When mental health challenges overwhelm us, grant us peace.

When a new diagnosis causes life to take an unexpected turn, grant us peace.

When su***de seems like the only option, grant us hope.

When treatment options are limited, grant us hope.

When society confuses mental illness with violence, grant us hope.

When a person begins the journey of recovery, we give thanks.

When mental health professionals offer compassionate care, we give thanks.

When communities are loving, non-judgemental, and supportive, we give thanks.

May we recommit ourselves to creating communities of healing, justice, and peace.

Amen.

We continue to uplift and celebrate a Mothering God, that sacred which is within all creation!

This Mother's Day, we uplifted a prayer as our community received flowers and strawberries from the children and youth:

On this Mother's Day, we celebrate all who have mothered us into being.

We honor those who gave birth, those who adopted, those who have fostered, those who have nurtured children, communities, movements, and dreams.

We celebrate grandmothers, aunties, godmothers, stepmothers, mentors, teachers, pastors, dragmothers, neighbors, chosen family members.

We honor those whose love has been a shelter, a source of courage for us.

We honor those who long to be mothers, those whose children are no longer with them, those whose relationships with their mothers are complicated or wounded, those who carry grief alongside gratitude today.

We carry those mothers who are in places of war, in places that are being devastated by genocide and war, in places that are targeted, where mothers' labor is not held as sacred and holy.

We remember those who mother from afar, mother in resistance, those who mother by creating spaces of justice and healing and belonging.

This mothering is holy work, quiet labor of showing up, the fierce work of protecting life, a creative act.

Mothering is nurturing what is tender and true.

And revolutionary practices of loving people into their fullest humanity is witnessed in mothering.

So today we give thanks for all who embody these sacred rhythms of care, for compassion and steadfast love.

Through your deep listening, your radical hospitality, and your commitment to liberation to help co-create a better world, may you know that your labor is seen.

May your tenderness be returned to you.

May you be surrounded by the same unconditional love that you have offered others.

Happy Mother's Day.

In all of the emotions that we hold in that happiness, to the visible and the unseen, we celebrate you, we bless you, we give thanks for your life.

Thanks be to God.

Amen.

Thanks be to God.

May welcomes us into celebration of Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Desi American Heritage and we are so grateful for the lineage of Asian Theology, wisdom keepers, creative dreamers, siblings, aunties, and revolutionaries who gift so much to ALL of us with their presence.

This season, we are reminded we all belong.
We are interrelated with one another.
Together we cocreate to survive and thrive!

We must resist a society that wants to swallow us whole. We must resist the lies that tell us that we are only worth what we can produce.

We must resist cynicism and ground in the truth that we are wild, beautiful, resilient and free. It is here where we might flourish and produce seeds to germinate and heal our world.

This is not to say that the abuses of Empire do not have an impact, but it is to say that oppression does not have the last word.

When we forget we can look to the wildflowers who reflect to us how we may fortify and tend to our wild souls.

Our untamed spirits blossom like the wildflowers in the crevices of rock; under the beating sun; when it is cold and damp with mildew; trampled; neglected and forgotten.

Luke 12:27 says, “Consider how the wildflowers grow. They do not labor or spin…”. When we look through the eyes of wildflowers we remember another world is possible if only we believe.

One message that has been sitting on our hearts and minds this May is from Nikita Gill:

"I hope you are blessed with a heart like a wildflower. Strong enough to rise again after being trampled upon, tough enough to weather the worst of the summer storms, and able to grow and flourisI hope you are blessed with a heart like a wildflower. Strong enough to rise again after being trampled upon, tough enough to weather the worst of the summer storms, and able to grow and flourish even in the most broken places.”

Hey all, this is Summer writing, and I’m so excited to share a beautiful opportunity with you all 💛

This week myself and a small group of folks grom V&M will be joining the free, self-paced virtual summit “Parenting for Justice” with Radically Inclusive Parenting (April 13–17), and I’d love for you to be part of it too!!

This 5-day gathering is designed with busy parents and caregivers in mind. So you can choose the sessions that speak to you and watch on your own time.

The conversations feel especially meaningful, touching on things we’ve been exploring at Valley & Mountain like contemplative spirituality in everyday family life, nurturing children’s spirituality without pressure, and building homes rooted in inclusion, love, and justice.

The first day alone which is focused on parenting as sacred formation and raising beloved, liberated children, will be so worth it.

I’ve been grateful to work alongside TFAM and the Radically Inclusive Parenting Project, and this summit carries that same heartbeat which reclaim that every family deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated.

If you’re interested, I’d love to experience this in community, so let me know if you sign up! And feel free to share with anyone who might be drawn to this work ✨

We are preparing for our annual Holy Week Table Turning tradition and we are calling on people of faith all across the city and county to join us for a People of Faith & Conscious to Unite in One Voice to Free Them All.

We have all seen the abuses of Immigration Customs Enforcement in Chicago, Minneapolis and here at home. Immigrant siblings are being detained without legal process.

Children are being caged all across our land. This is the moment that people of faith can stand together to demand the release of our people and to defend immigrant families from being torn apart.

On April 4th from 4-6 pm join us outside the Northwest Detention Center for the largest gathering of People of Faith in partnership and support of the ongoing work of Defend Migrants Alliance to Free Them All.

Gather your people, make your signs and be prepared to use your voice for change.

If you have any questions about this event please contact Rev. Dr. DeAnza Spaulding Sekou at [email protected]

Minneapolis finds itself at the center of a crisis that has been long in the making. This is a national invitation to faith leaders.

Repost via MARCH (Multifaith Antiracism, Change & Healing):

This is a crisis of our Constitution, federal overreach, militarized enforcement, and the erosion of civil liberties.

A crisis of our democracy.
A crisis of our morals.
A crisis of faith communities failing to live into a vision of Beloved Community—or, across traditions, our shared commitments to justice, dignity, compassion, right relationship, and collective care.

This is not a crisis confined to one city. It is a crisis all over the land, born of original sins: stolen land, slavery, genocide, and the ongoing violence required to sustain them.

And just before we mark MLK Day on January 19, 2026, we find ourselves standing in an echo of history—offered lessons we need not repeat and legacies of love we are called to build upon.

In the tendrils of inherited harm and collective memory, we hear calls from our past—calling us toward both peril and possibility.

That’s why MARCH is calling on you to join us on January 22nd & 23rd.
