Happy St. Nicholas Day

Today, December 6, we joyfully celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Nicholas - the great man for whom our parish, St. Nicholas, is named.

This Christian bishop from Myra (modern-day Turkey), was known for his deep faith, generosity, and compassion for the poor. He is venerated as the patron saint of children, sailors, and travelers.
On this blessed day, may we strive to follow his example of love for God and care for our fellow man.

Feast of the Nativity of St. John Baptist - June 24

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. This feast underscores John's role as the forerunner of Christ whose important mission was to prepare the way for the Messiah by calling people to repentance.

Prayer for the Day:
Almighty God, by whose providence thy servant John Baptist was wonderfully born, and sent to prepare the way of thy Son our Saviour by preaching repentance; Make us so to follow his doctrine and holy life, that we may truly repent according to his preaching; and after his example constantly speak the truth, boldly rebuke vice, and patiently suffer for the truth's sake; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (1928 BCP, p. 242)

The Collect for Ash Wednesday:

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all those who are penitent; Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
