This past Saturday, the choristers of Christ Church Episcopal Savannah and St. John's Church in Savannah teamed up for an all-day Choir Camp to kick off the year! The day included worship, rehearsals, music theory, voice lessons, games, and a final performance for parents to cap it all off! This intensive experience helps set rehearsal standards and expectations, gets us a jump start on learning repertoire for the year ahead, and builds in plenty of downtime as friendships form and strengthen in this tight-knit group.

JOIN THE CHRIST CHURCH CHOIR!

Rehearsals begin next Wednesday for the 2026-2027 year, which promises to be our best yet! This semi-professional choir has openings for volunteer tenors and basses. We sing a wide mix of repertoire spanning from Renaissance motets through works by living composers, some of which haven't even been published yet. Christ Church musicians share a commitment to offering music by composers of diverse and under-represented backgrounds.

JOIN THE CHRIST CHURCH CHOIR!

We are welcoming new singers in grades K-12 to sing with us this coming year! Kids in K-2 sing in the St. Cecilia Choir, learning the basics of how to use your voice in a choir. Beginning in 3rd grade, children are eligible to join the Chorister Program, a choir in the Royal School of Church Music program shared by many churches and cathedrals in the Episcopal tradition.

Both choirs rehearse on Wednesday afternoons at Christ Church in downtown Savannah. Interested in learning more? Get in touch - we'd love to talk with you!

This week saw lots of exciting progress on the Tricentennial Organ – many of the big pedal pipes have been placed into their racks, and the console turntable is nearly complete! The last layer (floorboards) will be laid today and tomorrow, and then the console itself will be assembled on top next week.

This turntable is a unique design among all of Harrison & Harrison’s many instruments, and will allow organists more flexibility to see both the choir in the gallery and the altar party and procession down below. It rotates up to 180 degrees, so that all the “action” can be clearly seen from the floor and opposite balcony during organ recitals and demonstrations.

to our Lenten concert from 2025, featuring Giovanni Pergolesi's hauntingly beautiful "Stabat Mater." Baroque specialists Elissa Edwards and Kristen Dubenion-Smith performed Pergolesi's final work, which was premiered in 1736 on the very day he died. Enjoy this video of the work in its entirety (~38 minutes), or just take a couple minutes to watch the beloved first movement.

It's always an exciting day when the music library purchase for the coming year arrives! Lots of fun stuff coming up this year, including some barn burners to put the new organ through its paces. Let us know if you spy any favorites in here!

The first shipment of Christ Church's new Tricentennial Organ has arrived!

Yesterday, Christ Church parishioners and friends gathered together for a brief liturgy for the Commissioning of Church Furnishings and Ornaments, and then set to work carrying in over 2,000 individual pieces of this organ which will be installed into the existing case over the next several weeks. (And this is just the first of three containers!)

We are incredibly thankful to all the many volunteers who gave of their time (and sweat) in the sweltering sun to make this process as smooth as possible. In the 95+ degree heat, the unloading was, according to Harrison & Harrison foreman Jim, "the hardest shift we've ever worked." Christ Church's signature cheer and joyful living persisted, and the entire 40' container was unloaded into the church in just over four hours.

We have had several folks ask, "Are we going to have church in there on Sunday?" And the answer is YES! The H&H team have already made great time moving, organizing, and installing parts so that the pews and aisles will be clear by Sunday.

IT'S HERE! The first container of components for Christ Church's new pipe organ has arrived in the Port of Savannah! It will be delivered to the church later this week - stay tuned for more details on the impending installation!
