“How good it is to center down. To sit quietly and see one’s self pass by.”
— Howard Thurman

In a world that rarely slows down, finding stillness sometimes begins with intentionally stepping away.

Join Bee at Peace and Brother Be Well for a silent Ignatian retreat inspired by the wisdom of Howard Thurman and his invitation to “center down.” Created especially for Black men, this weekend offers a welcoming space to rest, pray, reflect, and reconnect with God amid the quiet beauty of Ignatius House. Through guided reflections, sacred silence, and unhurried time in nature, you’ll be invited to listen more deeply—to God, to yourself, and to the movements of your own heart.

Whether this is your first retreat or one of many, you’ll be welcomed just as you are.

Scholarships and flexible payment options are available.

Sometimes, the best midday break is simply sitting down with a good book and letting yourself be still for a while. 📖✨

Our new Center for Spiritual Wellness is such a beautiful, reverent, and relaxing space—and tucked inside is the gorgeous Slow Faith Reading Room, created just for lingering, reading, reflecting, and letting your mind breathe. It’s the kind of space that makes you want to put your phone away and stay awhile.

The best part? You can experience it for yourself when you join us for a retreat. Take a look at our upcoming retreats and explore the full 2026 retreat schedule on our calendar.

Come away for a while. Make room for stillness. We’ll save you a seat. 💙

You do not have to finish everything before you are allowed to rest.

As summer begins its slow turn toward fall, calendars fill and the pace of life picks up again. It’s easy to tell ourselves that rest will come later, when the work is done, the family is cared for, the inbox is empty, the list is finished.

But Sabbath was never meant to be a reward for getting everything done. Sabbath is a gift.

Sometimes the invitation is simply to step away. To be quiet. To walk. To pray. To breathe. To listen. To let yourself rest without needing to accomplish anything at all.

In this week’s Weekly Encounter, we reflect on the gift of Sabbath and the invitation to notice what we may need in this season.

🍃 Read the reflection in today’s newsletter, and when you’re ready for a little time away, explore our upcoming retreat calendar through the link in bio.

Yesterday, our Ignatius House staff gathered for one of those rare occasions when almost everyone could be in the same place at the same time. At a busy retreat center, that’s no small accomplishment. While a few team members couldn’t be with us and not everyone made it into the photos, it was a joyful opportunity to pause, reconnect, and celebrate together.

We gave thanks for a wonderful fiscal year, celebrated the opening of new and renewed spaces across our campus, and welcomed several new members to the Ignatius House family.

The day was also bittersweet as we said goodbye to a few beloved colleagues, especially Carrie Armento, who has faithfully served Ignatius House for more than a decade. From volunteer to Finance Assistant, Carrie cared not only for registrations and financial details but, more importantly, for the people behind them. Her kindness and generosity have touched countless lives.

Though we’re saying goodbye to Carrie as a staff member, we know we’ll continue to see her at book studies, retreats, and around campus. 💚

Thank you!

Our hearts are full of gratitude.

Because of your incredible generosity, we not only reached our St. Ignatius Feast Day Appeal goal—we exceeded it! Together, 174 donors gave an amazing $136,857, providing Ignatius House with a wonderful start to our new fiscal year.

Your support helps sustain silent retreats, spiritual direction, financial assistance, recovery ministries, and the sacred spaces where thousands of people encounter God each year.

Thank you for believing in this ministry and for helping us welcome all who seek silence, healing, and encounter with God. We are deeply grateful for your partnership and excited for all that we will accomplish together in the year ahead. 💚

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, whose invitation to seek God in all things continues to guide and inspire us.

May his example encourage us to pause, pray, listen deeply, and seek God’s presence in the ordinary moments of our lives. Wherever you are on your journey, know that we are praying for you today.

Happy Feast of St. Ignatius from all of us at Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center. AMDG.
