Do you know who you are?
In a world that constantly tells us to find our identity in our achievements, relationships, status, appearance, success, failures, or what other people think about us, Scripture points us somewhere entirely different. According to Ephesians, the truest thing about a Christian is not where they’re from, what they’ve done, what they’ve been through, or even how they feel about themselves. The truest thing about them is that they are in Christ.
Ephesians 1:7 — “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.”
Because we are in Christ, we are loved, chosen, redeemed, forgiven, free, known, cherished, anointed, accepted— all by the Holy Spirit. Every spiritual blessing, every promise, every part of our identity flows from our union with Him. When God looks at those who belong to Christ, He doesn’t define them by their past mistakes, insecurities, struggles, or failures. He sees them covered by Jesus and welcomed into His family.
The world tells us to create an identity. The gospel tells us to receive one. If you’re struggling with identity, we invite you to speak this over yourself:
“I am not what the world says about me. I’m not the lies that have been spoken over me. I’m not the sum of all my achievements or my mistakes. I am who God says I am. The truest thing about me is that I’m a child of the one true King.”
