This Sunday at ADC!

Lama Tsongkhapa Day (Ganden Ngamchoe)

Ananda Dharma Center is pleased to announce a special event in honor of the parinirvana of the great Dharma master, Lama Tsongkhapa. Je Tsongkhapa Lobsang Drakpa (1357–1419) was unquestionably one of the most remarkable scholar-practitioners and innovative thinkers in Buddhist history. He synthesized the vast and profound traditions of Indian and Tibetan Buddhism and presented them in a clear, systematic, and accessible way for the greatest benefit of his students. He is revered as an emanation of Manjushri, Avalokiteshvara, and Vajrapani—an embodiment of the wisdom, compassion, and power of all the buddhas of the three times.

Lama Tsongkhapa Day, or Ganden Ngamchoe, commemorates the anniversary of his parinirvana. It is celebrated on the 25th day of the 10th month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, which this year falls on December 14th, 2025. On this auspicious day, we gather to express our heartfelt gratitude for Lama Tsongkhapa’s unparalleled contributions to the revitalization and flourishing of Buddhism in general, and Tibetan Buddhism in particular.

All are welcome to join this auspicious gathering!

Today is Lhabab Düchen (Buddha’s return from deva-land)which is one of the four Buddhist festivals commemorating four events in the life of the Buddha. Lhabab Düchen (Buddha’s return to the world) occurs on the 22nd day of the ninth lunar month according to Tibetan calendar. It is widely celebrated in Tibet and Bhutan. The day marks the anniversary of Shakyamuni Buddha’s return to Earth after spending 3 months in the god realms teaching Dharma to his mother. Buddha had left for heaven at the age of 41, having ascended to The Heaven of Thirty-Three (Trayastrimsa) in order to give teachings to benefit the gods in the desire realms and to repay the kindness of his mother by liberating her from Samsara. He was exhorted by his follower and representative Maugalyayana to return, and after a long debate managed to return. This is considered to be one of the eight great deeds of the Buddha. He returned to earth by a special triple ladder prepared by Viswakarma, the god of machines. Buddha’s return was a time of rejoicing for his disciples and is one of the four main Buddhist festivals commemorating special events in the life of Shakyamuni Buddha. In the Tibetan tradition it’s a day for making prayers and practicing virtue as all merit created on this special day is multiplied 100 million times. Take advantage of this merit multiplying opportunity by giving to your favorite charities, making prayers and practicing dharma. You CAN make in a difference in the lives of your fellow suffering beings.

His Eminence Choden Rinpoche's Anniversary Commemoration.
Guru Puja Tsog
with Gyalten Khen Rinpoche
September 7th 2025.

H. E. Choden Rinpoche was a living embodiment of the pure lineage of the Buddha’s teachings; he lived a life filled with moral discipline and quiet, profound wisdom. He was a perfect example of how dedication to study and practice can permeate one’s entire consciousness, opening it to the primordial pure essence of being. His loving compassion, wisdom, and steadfast devotion to the Buddhadharma inspired all of us to become devoted Buddhist practitioners. Rinpoche came to the West, following the invitation from many centers and organizations and so Rinpoche’s teaching activities began to spread and touch the heart of many beings.
Having worked tirelessly in the service of Buddhadharma, endlessly benefitting sentient beings, H.E. Choden Rinpoche finally displayed his coarse form dissolving back into the Dharmakaya on September 11, 2015. It is important for all his students to remember the kindness of the guru and abide in that remembrance. All are welcome to join this special event.

Please join us in celebrating Saka Dawa at ADC
June 8th 2025.
11:00AM-12:30PM

Saka Dawa is one of the four holy days when we celebrate the birth, enlightenment and death (Mahaparinirvana) of Buddha Shakyamuni. The Saka Dawa observations take place in the fourth month of the Tibetan calendar. This special Dharma occasion is regarded as a great opportunity to earn merit, purify, and attain Enlightenment. Any good deeds performed during the month of Saka Dawa are rewarded with one hundred million times greater good karma. These meritorious activities revolve around early teachings of te Buddh on sila (morality), dana (generosity) and bhavana (meditation). Therefore, Saka Dawa is an excellent time to dedicate yourself to taking spiritually positive actions. We rejoice in our potential to become fully awakened ourselves. On this very special day, ADC will perform the Buddha bathing offering and the Guru Puja.
