All were welcomed as we celebrated and affirmed the LGBTQ+ community!
At our June 7th worship service, in a brightly decorated sanctuary, the people joyously declared: No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here!
Music and singing flowed throughout the hour, featuring the Chancel Choir and the visiting Rainbow Women’s Chorus. During the service Maryann Coole, the church’s director of family ministries, chatted with the youth and children, saying “Everyone deserves justice. Every person deserves to be treated the same.”
In the sermon, Interim Senior Pastor Olive Hinnant spoke about what it’s like to be on a lonely road — to be an outsider — and how God created something new, a world in which all people are included and recognized for who they are. Pastor Olive declared: “You are welcome here! We have a future we have yet to imagine!”
After the service, everyone adjourned to the courtyard for coffee, cake, and the FCCSJ Pride Community Partners Information Fair. Representatives from eight LGBTQ+ community organizations chatted with the crowd. They shared information about their services and how the church could help support their work in the community.
The Pride Sunday celebration is part of the church’s Pride on the Corner summer program. Other activities include marching in the Silicon Valley Pride Parade. and collaborating with other local churches at an Interfaith booth during the Silicon Valley Pride Festival.
