Statement from Archdiocese of San Antonio regarding sabbatical of Auxiliary Bishop Arturo Cepeda
Temporary director named for archdiocesan Curia
After much prayer and discussion, Auxiliary Bishop Arturo Cepeda has requested time for a sabbatical, which has been granted by Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, effective today. The sabbatical will be the first taken by Bishop Cepeda after more than 15 years of episcopal ministry in Detroit and San Antonio and an additional 15 years of priestly ministry here, mostly in archdiocesan administrative positions.
Archbishop Gustavo assured Bishop Cepeda of his prayers — that he return from this sabbatical spiritually and physically rejuvenated. As Bishop Cepeda focuses on his health and well-being, the archbishop fully supports and eagerly awaits the bishop’s resumption to ministry in the archdiocese following this much-needed rest.
To give Archbishop Gustavo time to reassess the future of the Office of the Moderator of the Curia and to ensure that it is fully suited for the service of the people of God, he has appointed Rubén Hinojosa as temporary Director of the Curia to oversee the daily operations of the Pastoral Ministry Center. Hinojosa will serve in this role in addition to his current duties as archdiocesan Chief Financial Officer and Department Head of Administration.
“As God continues to bless our local Church, join me in praying that we will walk together on this synodal path, listening to one another and always seeking to do God’s will,” said Archbishop Gustavo. “May God’s blessings be upon all the faithful of the Archdiocese of San Antonio.”
Bishop Cepeda says, “I am deeply grateful to Archbishop Gustavo for his support and understanding as I take this time for renewal, and I look forward to resuming service to all in the archdiocese with added zeal.”
During this sabbatical the archbishop asks that we all pray for Bishop Cepeda and that we respect his privacy, giving him the space he needs for renewal and rejuvenation.

Declaración de la Arquidiócesis de San Antonio sobre el sabático del Obispo Auxiliar Arturo Cepeda
Se nombra un director interino para la curia arquidiocesana
Tras mucha oración y diálogo, el Obispo Auxiliar Arturo Cepeda ha solicitado un tiempo sabático, el cual le ha sido concedido por el arzobispo Gustavo García Siller, MSpS, con efecto a partir de hoy. Este será el primer tiempo sabático que tome el Obispo Cepeda tras más de 15 años de ministerio episcopal en Detroit y San Antonio, sumados a otros 15 años de ministerio sacerdotal aquí, desempeñados mayoritariamente en cargos administrativos de la arquidiócesis.
El arzobispo Gustavo aseguró al Obispo Cepeda que rezará para que vuelva de este periodo sabático renovado espiritual y físicamente. Mientras el Obispo Cepeda se centra en su salud y bienestar, el Arzobispo apoya plenamente y espera con ilusión su reintegración al ministerio en la arquidiócesis tras este descanso tan necesario.
Para disponer de tiempo y reevaluar el futuro de la Oficina del Moderador de la Curia, así como para garantizar que esta se adapte plenamente al servicio del Pueblo de Dios, el arzobispo Gustavo ha nombrado a Rubén Hinojosa como director interino de la curia, encargado de supervisar las operaciones cotidianas del Centro de Ministerios Pastorales. Hinojosa desempeñará esta función además de sus responsabilidades actuales como director financiero y jefe del departamento de administración de la arquidiócesis.
“Mientras Dios continúa bendiciendo a nuestra iglesia local, acompáñenme en oración para que caminemos juntos por esta senda sinodal, escuchándonos mutuamente y buscando siempre hacer la voluntad de Dios”, dijo el arzobispo Gustavo. “Que las bendiciones de Dios acompañen a todos los fieles de la Arquidiócesis de San Antonio”.
Por su parte, el Obispo Cepeda afirma: “Estoy profundamente agradecido con el arzobispo Gustavo por su apoyo y comprensión al tomarme este tiempo de renovación y espero con ilusión reanudar el servicio a todos en la arquidiócesis con fervor renovado”.
Durante este periodo sabático, el arzobispo pide que todos oremos por el Obispo Cepeda y respetemos su privacidad, brindándole el espacio que merece para su renovación y revitalización.
