What does it really mean to pray in faith?

Scripture tells us that our confidence is this: when we ask anything according to God’s will, He hears us. Faith isn’t about convincing God to do what we want—it’s about knowing His heart, trusting His Word, and bringing our prayers into alignment with His will.

Elijah gives us a beautiful picture of this. He prayed for rain because God had already said the rain was coming. And even when there was nothing to see, Elijah kept going. Again. And again. Until eventually, a tiny cloud appeared.

Sometimes faith means trusting what God said when there is still no evidence in front of us.

And sometimes faith means moving without knowing every step. God may show us the destination without giving us the entire map. He leads as we walk. When a door closes, it may not be rejection—it may be redirection. When something doesn’t work the first time, it doesn’t automatically mean God has changed His mind. And when the path isn’t completely clear, we don’t have to remain frozen in fear.

We can move forward knowing the Holy Spirit is with us, guiding, correcting, redirecting, and establishing our steps.

Our job isn’t to control the outcome. Our job is to stay close enough to God to recognize His voice, surrender our will to His, and trust Him enough to keep walking.

You don’t have to know how.

You just need to know Who you’re following.

Today, we were reminded that our faith also has an object, and Faith Has a Name: JESUS.
Hebrews 12 tells us to run with endurance the race God has set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Each of us has a race uniquely designed for us, and we cannot run it successfully while looking at the crowd, comparing ourselves to others, focusing on our past, or depending on our own abilities. Our eyes have to stay on Jesus.

Last week, we learned that faith isn’t simply something we use when we need something from God—it is our way of life. Today, we were reminded that our faith also has an object, and Faith Has a Name: JESUS.

Hebrews 12 tells us to run with endurance the race God has set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Each of us has a race uniquely designed for us, and we cannot run it successfully while looking at the crowd, comparing ourselves to others, focusing on our past, or depending on our own abilities. Our eyes have to stay on Jesus.

Why Jesus? Because He has already gone before us.

Scripture tells us that Jesus was made like us and experienced temptation, suffering, weakness, rejection, hardship, and pain—yet He overcame. We don’t follow someone who doesn’t understand what life feels like. We follow a Savior who has been there, walked the road before us, and knows exactly how to lead us through it.

Following Jesus doesn’t mean there won’t be obstacles. We may stumble. We may walk through darkness. There may even be moments when it feels like God has gone ahead without us. But He promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Sometimes we won’t see the next step until it’s time to take it. But Jesus is already ahead of us. The provision we will need is already known to Him. The way that looks impossible to us isn’t impossible to the One who has already walked it.

So don’t freak out. Don’t let fear convince you that you have to figure everything out yourself. Keep walking. Keep trusting. Keep following.

And when you don’t know what to do, look at Jesus. Ask: How did Christ handle this? Then follow His footsteps.

Our faith isn’t in ourselves.
Our faith isn’t in people.
Our faith isn’t in circumstances or systems.

Our faith has a name—and His name is JESUS.

What if faith isn’t simply something we reach for when we need healing, provision, a breakthrough, or an answered prayer? What if faith is meant to be our way of life?

Today, Pastor Femi reminded us that “the righteous shall live by faith.” Faith isn’t just what we believe—it’s why we do what we do. It is the operating system of a life surrendered to God.

Romans 14:23 tells us that “whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.” That means we can’t judge our choices simply by whether they “worked out.” Abraham got a son when he tried to accomplish God’s promise his own way—but a successful result didn’t make it God’s will. The question isn’t only, “Did it work?” The better question is, “Did this proceed from faith in God?”

And faith doesn’t mean we never experience fear. When fear comes, we can choose where we place our trust: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” Faith doesn’t have to erase every uncomfortable feeling—it refuses to let fear have the final word.

Every decision reveals what or whom we are trusting. Are we trusting ourselves? Our past experiences? Our jobs? Other people? Our own plans? Or are we trusting the God who already sees the destination?

We have never lived tomorrow—but God is already there.

Maybe one of the most powerful prayers we can pray is:

“God, deliver me from what I want when what I want is not what You want for me.”

His plans are greater than ours. His wisdom sees farther than ours. And when we surrender our lives to Him, we can trust Him with the road ahead.

Faith says, “God, You know where I’m going. You know how to get me there. I surrender the direction of my life to You.”

So this week, ask yourself: What have I been putting my faith in?

May our answer increasingly become: Christ alone.
