⚠️ He shouldn’t be here.

That’s what everyone thought five years ago when Richard Pope launched Canvas Church in Salisbury, Maryland… while battling terminal cancer.

On launch Sunday in April 2021, Richard was violently sick from treatments.
Weak.
Terrified.
Unsure how much time he had left.

Most people would’ve waited.
Played it safe.
Focused on survival.

Instead, Richard and his wife Payton chose faithfulness.

“If God called me to plant a church and He knew I was going to get cancer,” Richard said, “then He must want me to plant a church with cancer.”

So they did.

And today?

Richard is still alive.

Canvas Church just celebrated FIVE YEARS.

And what God has done is nothing short of miraculous.

When they launched, their bold prayer was that maybe 50 people would come to know Jesus in five years.

On their very first Sunday, 14 people gave their lives to Christ.

This year, they celebrated baptisms 325, 326, and 327. 💧

Not only that...
Canvas Church has already planted FIVE churches across Maryland and Delaware.

What started with one church planter who didn’t know if he’d survive…
has now multiplied into churches, disciples, baptisms, and new church planters being sent out to reach even more people with the gospel.

This is what happens when ordinary people choose faithfulness over fear.
This is what happens when the gospel advances through suffering.
This is what your Annie Armstrong Easter Offering gives toward.

Not comfort.
Not easy stories.
But surrendered “yeses” that God multiplies beyond imagination.

Richard recently said:
“Back then, ‘God will provide’ was a theological conviction. Now it’s a lived-out testimony.”

And maybe someone reading this today needs that reminder too:

God is still good.
God still provides.
God still calls people to go.
And God still does miracles. ✨

Drop a 🙏 in the comments to celebrate what God has done through Canvas Church and to pray for church planters faithfully saying “yes” even in the hardest seasons.

You can read Richard's full story at the link in the comments.
