The greatest blessing of the Cross isn't just heaven someday, it's access to God today.
Many of us understand that Jesus died to save us from sin, death, and judgment. While that is absolutely true, Peter reminds us that Christ's suffering accomplished something even greater: it brought us into relationship with God.
Because Jesus endured the Cross, we now have access to God's presence, God's power, and God's promises. The barrier that separated humanity from God has been removed, and through Christ we have been connected to the One before whom angels, authorities, and powers must submit.
The power isn't the blessing. Access to God is the blessing. The power is one of the benefits.
Tonight, we'll take a deeper look at 1 Peter 3:17-22 and explore what it means to have access to God, why that access matters, and how God's presence, power, and promises become available through Jesus Christ.
