Everyone is talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI). Not a day goes by without an executive promising it will make filing your taxes, writing social copy, or planning your grocery list easier. Not a day goes by without someone sounding the alarm about its environmental cost or the moral hazard of outsourcing our thinking to a machine. Not a day goes by without AI content we never asked for — realistic images of rainbow light-up sprinklers, virtual try-on glasses, chatbots that write pastors’ sermons or let people “talk” to “Jesus.”

AI is everywhere, and it’s hard to know what to do about it. Some faith leaders worry it distances us from the divine; others are building the bots themselves.

How, as Lutherans, should we interact with AI? We’re launching a reading group to discuss and discern — led by MNYS’s Director of Media and Communication, Kevin Ritter-Jung. Over six monthly sessions on Zoom, we’ll read Christian and secular perspectives on artificial intelligence. Our first session, Wednesday, August 12, 5:30-6:30pm, asks: “Is AI inevitable?” Sign up at the link in our bio. (Readings will be sent after registering. No need to read everything to attend!)

Anger is a human emotion. Even in Scripture, we see people expressing anger in the face of injustice, suffering, and broken relationships.

The question is not whether we will feel anger. The question is what we do with it.

Faith invites us to listen to what our anger is telling us, bring it before God, and allow it to be transformed into wisdom, compassion, and action that serves our neighbors.

When guided by love, even anger can become a force for healing and justice.

It is easy to agree with the teachings of Jesus. The challenge is putting them into practice.

When we welcome the stranger, care for those in need, speak words of hope, and work for justice, we become doers of the word. Our faith takes shape in the choices we make each day.

May God grant us the courage to move beyond hearing and into faithful action.

"Be doers of the word, and not merely hearers." — James 1:22

Jesus compares God's reign to a sower scattering seed across the land. Some seeds flourish quickly, while others take root in ways we cannot yet see.

The same is true in our lives. Acts of kindness, words of encouragement, prayers offered in faith, and service given in love may seem small, but God is always at work beneath the surface. What appears dormant or insignificant today may become a blessing tomorrow.

As we are nourished at Christ's table and sent into the world, we trust that God can bring new life and abundant harvest from even the smallest seeds of hope.

Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30

Jesus does not promise a life free from challenges. Instead, he offers companionship, wisdom, and a gentler way of living:

"Learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart."

In a culture that often prizes busyness and constant productivity, Christ invites us into a rhythm rooted in humility, compassion, and trust.

What would it look like to carry only what God is asking of you today?
