Practical ways to support the Wertzs:
Giving to missions is not just about money—it also includes time, talents, and prayer. The UMC asks members to support its ministries through these three means, each requiring sacrifice and faith. If you cannot offer financial support, make a commitment to pray for them weekly.

If you would like to find ways to offer your time and your abilities to help others locally, please let Pastor or Bill know that you would like to have a conversation. Helping others in some way is a great way to add meaning to your life!
The UMC encourages giving to missions because it is a biblical, spiritual, and practical way to live out our call to love God, serve others, and share resources for the work of the church worldwide.

Worship is at 9:00 on Sunday. Rev Lowell and Claudia Wertz will be leading the service and sharing stories about their ministries in Tanzania! Everyone is welcome!

Why is mission giving so important?

According to UMC leaders, mission giving:

1. Expresses shared commitment to love, serve, and grow together as the body of Christ

2. Supports life-changing ministries across Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East

3. Funds missionaries, church builds, scholarships, and community programs

4. Deepens witness in the world by showing the UMC’s unity and compassion

Rev. Lowell and Cludia Wertz are going to speak at our church this Sunday about their mission in Tanzania. It is called "Joy in the Harvest," and they are doing more than simply feeding the hungry and providing for the poor. They are training young people and older adults as well for jobs that will support them and their families, and change the trajectories of their lives! We are proud to be a sponsoring church for the Wertzs!

Invite a friend and come hear their stories of how God is at work in Tanzania! Our mission offerings through October will support their ministry!

Why do we give to missions?

United Methodists give to missions because it is a biblical call to love God, serve neighbors, and share resources for the work of the church worldwide, expressed through prayer, presence, gifts, and service, and witness. Our membership vows include the promise to the loyal to the United Methodist Church through our prayers, our presence, our gifts (offerings), our service, and our witness.

But there's more. We give to missions as an act of obedience to God and love for our neighbors, which is rooted in Scripture. The Old Testament tithe—giving a tenth of one’s produce to support the Levites and care for the poor—set an early example of sharing resources for the community’s needs
Jesus emphasized justice, mercy, and faithfulness over ritual observance, and the UMC sees mission giving as a response to God’s love in Christ and a way to trust God to meet our needs
John Wesley, founder of Methodism, called giving a necessary spiritual practice and one of the chief ways to show love toward neighbors. When we stop giving, our hearts turn away from God. When we stop giving to help others, our focus turns to ourselves.

Faithful and generous giving can result in our feeling closer to God and closer to others! It is being blessed to be a blessing to others!
