"I feel like church is boring."

In two separate sources listing reasons people opt out of church services, the above reason was given. Ok, I'll bite. The first thing I would say is yes, we in the church who are leaders have not always given our best, leaning on re-runs and half-baked bread to feed the spiritually hungry.

As a result, it checked a box but didn't move any hearts. We have ourselves to blame for it. Further, it says here that I, for one, wish I could go back in time and re-do some of my poorer performances. However, worship isn't about performance and corporate services are not opportunities to serve as Olympics judges.

Two things. First, worship is NOT about how I feel; it is about a God Who calls us to respond in humble obedience and glad adoration to HIM. God is never boring - those who represent Him might be, but the Creator of the universe still roars like a lion! Whether I feel happy or sad or electric or unimpressed, God is still God and if I seek Him with my whole heart, He can and will be found. And God is amazing, holy, loving, compassionate, and His love for us is a jealous love, as in, He wants all of us (us = not a number, but proportion).

Second, church is largely what we put into it. If we aren't willing to do anything except show up for an hour, we might not have our fancies tickled the right way. But if we long for Him during the week, and seek the Presence of the Holy One, Sunday can be our favorite day. No one will ever find a perfect church because they all have people in them, and people have not yet been error-proofed. If you come, though, with a spirit that is hungry and with spiritual eyes wide open, something says that boring might just turn into exciting. Imagine that.

"After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly." Acts 4:31

PLEASE READ AND RESPOND

I've been seeing and reading articles lately about why people don't attend church services anymore on a regular basis.

However, I believe that is not always the case and we can actually see the opposite practiced in some locations.

Whether you are part of Olde Towne CC or attend elsewhere, would you please tell me the top reason(s) why you attend church services on a regular basis? If you choose, you can send it to me privately via DM. I would appreciate it.

As part of the follow-up, I will post a few of my own thoughts in response to both why people either do attend regularly or do not.
