Tuesday, June 16
After a cooler night in the sanctuary at Breath of God, we traveled to serve with Friends of Patterson Park, cleaning up trash and weeding around buildings. We were even serenaded by a ukulele band that entertains kids every Tuesday!

Then we drive to the waterfront and had an Eco tour at Pierce's Park, learning about reclaiming wetlands and seeing Mr. Trash Wheel in action. Then we got to clean oyster cages (a messy, muddy job).

A Cuban dinner at Little Havana joining youth from a service organization,Somos, from City College (which is a local high school )

The evening was capped off with a sailing adventure with the Downtown Sailing Center! We all had the opportunity to steer, operate the main sheet and the jib sheets! The weather was perfect and we are so grateful.

Trinity Choir sings Mark A. Miller's "God's Got the Whole World" as the gradual anthem. This is a slow, gospel style setting of the familiar text. Mark uses lush, broad chords to represent God's hands as support for us and the world, with the final chord giving a low d-flat to the bass 2's.

Monday, June 15:

After a really warm night sleeping in the sanctuary of Breath of God Lutheran Church, we worked at 2 different sites: at Conking Street Garden cleaning up a community garden/painting a pegboard so they can post events - and at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, removing morning Glory from a fence, deconstructing pallets, and cooking with ingredients we harvested from the garden! We even got to experience their outdoor labyrinth.

For dinner we were blessed with an authentic Mexican meal prepared by Maria.

Whoopie pies were a hit tonight ("Thanks, Declan's mom!).

Lectionary 11 | Beneath the Steeple

God does not wait at the summit for us to climb up. No, God descends. That is the whole shape of grace made perfect in Jesus Christ.

The Service Learning Camp Crew made it safely to Baltimore! We were welcomed by the pastors of Breath of God Lutheran Church and invited to share in their Crab Feast! I'm proud that everyone in our group was willing to try! We met the fabulous youth group from Pleasant Grove UMC in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Originally all of us were going to sleep in the lightly air-conditioned sanctuary. The North Carolinans chose to move to the lower level room where we will eat: air conditioning and a sweet set up to watch the Stanley Cup game!

Please pray for our youth and adults as we prepare to serve.

Moses tells the Israelites that they are called to be a priestly kingdom and a holy people. Jesus sends out the disciples as laborers into the harvest. In baptism we too are anointed for ministry, sharing God’s compassion with our needy world. From the Lord’s table we go forth to proclaim the good news, to heal the sick, and to share our bread with the hungry.

This week we saw a lot more scaffolding go up, and a few more windows came out! A big thanks to John Canning & Co. for moving the Narthex furniture out so they could prep the space for the work ahead.

Trinity Youth Ringers open worship with a setting of For the Beauty of the Earth. We hear the hymn 3 times, with each repetition becoming more intricate. The group is comprised of youth ages 7-17.

Lectionary 10 | Beneath the Steeple

"It is the voice that speaks every time we decide we are the ones who get to curate the guest list rather than admit that all of us were let into the banquet by mercy and grace alone."
