WHILE I AM WAITING

Isaiah 40:28-31

Waiting on God is not passive, empty time!

it's an active season of preparation and trust. (Ezekiel 38:7)
It’s a time to work on renewing your focus on things above (Colossians 3:2)
It is a purposeful expectancy while we are waiting (1 Corinthians 16:13)
A time that we should be reflecting on the promises found in scripture (Hebrews 11:7)
4 ways to actively wait on God

Shift from passive to expectant: Instead of just hoping something good happens, wake up every morning believing God is working out the details in your life Open the Bible. (Luke 21:36)
Refocus on what you know: When the future feels uncertain, focus on the unchanging character of God and His promises rather than the discomfort of the gap moments (John 16:33)
Seek a redemptive purpose: Invite God to use this delay to expose areas for personal growth, hidden habits to abandon, and meaningful ways to serve others in the meantime (Psalm 139:23-24)
Anchor yourself in scripture: Meditate on passages like Psalm 27:14 or Isaiah 30:18 to strengthen your heart and find peace

THE LEGACY

EPHESIANS 6:1-4

Unconditional Love of Christ & the Identity we have in him:

We need to Teach children they are made in the image of God and loved unconditionally—
Christ’s’ love is not based on their performance, but on who they are as His children, and treat them the same as our own.
This models the perfect love of the Heavenly Father, one that we should model to our children.
Gods Example!

1 John 3:1: "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!"

1 Peter 2:9: "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness..."

The Power of Grace God has extended to us:

Help them understand that because they have received grace, they are called to extend it.
Teach them that failure is not fatal, but rather an opportunity for redemption, growth,
Show them that we should be relying on God's strength.
Advice!

2 Peter 3:18 – "But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen."

2 Corinthians 9:8 – "And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work."

The Fear of the Lord:

Model a healthy reverence and awe for God.
Teach that the "fear of the Lord" brings true wisdom, protection, and discernment when making life's major decisions.
Teach them that “fear the Lord” is not a terror fear but a realization and respect of his great power.
Proof! (only a few of many)

Proverbs 1:7 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.

Proverbs 9:10 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Psalm 111:10 – Reverence for God brings true understanding.

Proverbs 8:13 – To fear the Lord is to hate evil.

Proverbs 16:6 – Through the fear of the Lord, evil is avoided.

Luke 1:50 – His mercy extends to those who fear Him.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 – Fear God and keep His commandments.

Integrity & Servanthood:

Demonstrate that true greatness in the Kingdom of God lies in humility and servanthood
keeping your word.
Let them see you honor your commitments and serve others without expecting recognition.
Wisdom!

Proverbs 11:3 – The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

Proverbs 10:9 – Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.

Proverbs 20:7 – The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them.

Faith in Action:

Equip them with an experiential faith.
Model a consistent prayer life and demonstrate how to trust God practically through life’s challenges and uncertainties.
Remember you are raising a child no matter how old you are or how old they are because they will be to their kids what you show them.
Teach them hoe to praise God in a storm!!


Proverbs 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Isaiah 43:2 ESV When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

Romans 5:3-5 NIV Not only so, but we[a] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

THE PATH OF A CHRISTIAN
5/31/26

Psalms 19: 7-14

1. Why Was Man Created?

To Reflect His Image: Humans are uniquely created in the "image and likeness" of God to act as His representatives, reflecting His character, love, and righteousness to the rest of the world (Genesis 1:26).
To Glorify God: The overarching purpose of humanity is to bring honor, praise, and glory to the Creator (Isaiah 43:7).
To Be Caretakers of Creation: God gave humans the responsibility to rule over the earth, cultivate it, and act as stewards of His creation (Genesis 1:28).
To Have Fellowship: God desires an ongoing, loving relationship with humanity, granting people the free will to choose to love and follow Him (John 14:20)


2. The Separation and the Need for a Savior

The Fall: Through the disobedience of Adam and Eve, humanity became subject to physical and spiritual death, separated from a perfect, holy God.(Romans 5:12)
The Atonement: Because humans could not overcome sin and death on their own, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for our sins and break the bonds of death. (1 John 4:10)


3. How we Received Salvation

We realized that we were Sinners. (Romans 3:23)
We recognized our need for salvation. (Romans 5:8)
We repented form our sins. (Mark 1:15)
We received Christ as our Savior. (Revelations 3:20)


4. Growth and Maturity (The work of the Holy Spirit)

Illuminating Truth: The Spirit acts as a divine teacher, revealing the wisdom of Scripture and guiding believers into a deeper understanding of God’s will. (2 Corinthians 4:6)
Producing the Fruit: Spiritual maturity is evidenced by a maturing character. The Holy Spirit produces the fruit of the Spirit in a believer's life. (Galatians 5:22-23)
Empowering Transformation: The Spirit provides the inner strength needed to overcome old habits, resist temptation, and consistently choose righteous living. (Romans 12:2)
Guiding Surrender: Rather than forcing compliance, the Holy Spirit continually invites believers to surrender their selfish desires and align their thoughts, words, and deeds with Christ. (Matthew 16:24)


5. Eternity and the Afterlife

Resurrection: Because of Jesus Christ, those who have accepted his salvation with be reunited with him for eternity. (John 11:25-26)
Judgment: Following resurrection, individuals face a final judgment based on their earthly lives. (2 Corinthians 5:10-11)
The Final Destination: this results in spending eternity in the presence of God, or facing Hell (not prepared for Humans but for Satan and his demons) Humans will only follow if they have rejected Christ. (Revelations 20:11-15)

Are you a Faucet or a Drain

John 7:37-39

Christians will either be a fountain or they will be a drain when it comes to their responsibilities in the kingdom of God.

There is no middle ground.
As a member of a local church, I am either a fountain that nourishes the work
or I am a drain that is depleting the energy and life from that work.
When a Christian becomes is lazy and a slacker regarding the work of the local church, they become a drain rather than a fountain of life-giving water.

Drain is defined as, “To deplete gradually, especially to the point of complete exhaustion.” (American Heritage Dictionary)
Drains are complacent concerning the growth of the church.
They are comfortable where they are, and the current “state” of things.
Drains don’t want change!
Verses: Amos 6:1, Proverbs 1:32, Luke 12:19-20



When Flowing Freely (like an Open Faucet) it produces:

Abundance & Blessings:
Running water often represents a steady stream of divine provision.
Spiritual Cleansing:
It symbolizes being washed clean of past traumas, negativity, or stagnant energy.
It is an invitation to let go of control and allow the God to “clean up” your issues.
Verses: Hebrews 10:36, 2 Timothy 1:7



An Overflowing Faucet Causes:

Spiritual Awakening:
it represents an overwhelming outpouring of blessings, spiritual gifts, or answered prayers.
It generates noticeable excitement (That become contagious) and draws folks to you.
Verses: 1 Corinthians 16:13, 1 Peter 5:8

Grace and Truth in Jesus (Part 2):
John 8:1-11

Recap from last week:

Jesus is described as being "full of grace and truth,"
• Unconditional love (grace)
• Divine reality/conviction (truth).
Verses
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Grace (Unmerited Favor):
• Grace offers healing and salvation rather than condemnation.
Romans 3:24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Truth (Reality and Holiness):
• It is firm principles against injustice.
Verses:
Ephesians 6:14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, (belt to hold the truth. Breastplate to protect your life)


Now that we have defined it, how do we live in Truth and Grace

Knowing the Balance between the two:
• Jesus never allowed grace to bypass truth, nor truth to overwhelm grace.
• For example, in the case of the woman caught in adultery, he showed grace by not condemning her, but truth by telling her to sin no more.
• There is no version of Christianity that allows one to keep on sinning just because Jesus Loves You. True love is demonstrated with obedience. (Like wedding Vows)
Verses:
Psalms 85:10 Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.

Ephesians 4:15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.


Grace and Truth replace the condemnation of the Law:
• While the law came through Moses,
• The law merely mirrors what truth is, but it is just a reflection and cannot justify or save you.
• grace and truth came through Jesus Christ,
• Marking the transition from a system of legal requirements to a relationship based on grace.
Verses:
Romans 6:14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

Romans 10:4 Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Romans 3:20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. +

James 1:23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror

Finally:
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means (God Forbid)! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:1-4

Grace and Truth in Jesus:

John 8:1-11

Hurry up and wait!
Isaiah 40:31: "But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint".

Key Aspects of Waiting on the Lord
➢ Active Trust: Not merely doing nothing, but trusting, hoping, and remaining faithful.
➢ Surrender & Obedience: Submitting to God's timing, which may differ from our own.
➢ Spiritual Growth: Using the time for character development, inner strengthening, and drawing nearer to God.
➢ Anticipating Direction: Actively listening and staying for instructions that lead to victory.
• Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV): "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
• Psalm 37:5 (ESV): "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act."

Practical Ways to Wait
➢ Prayer: Engaging in prayer to maintain a connection with God.
➢ Scripture Study: Remaining in the Word for guidance and encouragement.
➢ Serving Others: Remaining faithful and active in daily responsibilities.
➢ Choosing Not to Take Shortcuts: Relying on God's promises rather than fixing things on your own.
o Hebrews 10:24-25: "Not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another...".
o Acts 2:42: "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer".
o Matthew 18:20: "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them".
Benefits of Waiting
➢ Renewed Strength: Physical and spiritual empowerment.
➢ Character Transformation: Being shaped into a better version of oneself.
➢ Guidance and Direction: Receiving divine strategy to move forward.
➢ Protection: Guarding against hasty decisions, bitterness, or taking vengeance.
• Ecclesiastes 3:11(NIV): "He has made everything beautiful in its time.".
• Psalm 27:14 (NIV): "Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.".
• Galatians 6:9 (NIV): "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.".
• Habakkuk 2:3 (ESV): "For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.".
• 1 Peter 5:6 (NIV): "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time

Common Challenges
➢ Impatience: Dealing with the temptation to hurry and take matters into one's own hands.
➢ Doubt and Fear: Struggling with trust when the situation seems dire.
➢ Distractions: Difficulty focusing on God's will due to worldly distractions.
• Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand".
• 2 Timothy 1:7: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind".
• Joshua 1:9: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid... for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go".
• Psalm 56:3: "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you".
