Time

Eccl. 3: 1-8 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: 2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

There is a time for everything, and we are only given so much time. 60 seconds, 60 minutes, 7 days a week, 52 weeks in a year. That is how long God took to get us around the sun. We need to keep what is important to our time.

You must budget your time. Budget time for the Lord. He should be priority #1. Do we procrastinate? We do not have time to waste.

Matthew 28: 19-20 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

- - this is our assignment from Jesus. He left us in charge of the message.

Col 4:1-6 Masters, treat your bondservants[a] justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven. 2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— 4 that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. 5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

It is up to us to tell others and show others there is a better
way, but we only have so much time. There is always time to repent before the last date is put on your tomb stone.

Matthew 20: 1-16 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius[a] a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ 5 So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ 7 They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’ 8 And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’ 9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. 10 Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius. 11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, 12 saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ 13 But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. 15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’[b] 16 So the last will be first, and the first last.”

Eternity is a long time. You cannot work your way in. You cannot pay your way in. Only through him can we get there.

John 17:4 – I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.

He finished his work before he died. We have our work still to do. Choose wisely.

We have something far better waiting on us.

Joy – Salvation

Isaiah 12: 1-6 (1) You will say in that day: I will give thanks to you, O LORD, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me. (2) “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” (3) “With joy you will draw water form the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. (5) “Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. (6) Shout, and sing of joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”

He does not want to just hear form us when things are well. He wants us to cry out to him when things are not right. All we must do is pray. He wants to be with us in ALL our seasons. Cast your cares on him. It is also important to know that with Him, we do not have to have all the right words. We can just spill our heart out to him.

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Romans 8: 26-27 (26) Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words (27) And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Imagine not having the Joy of knowing God is there for us? Our God is always there and knowing that is so important.

Matthew 5:4 (4) Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted (Verses 3-12 are wonderful additions to this)

John 14:1-4 (1) Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. (2) In my Father’s house are any rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? (3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. (4) And you know the way to where I am going.

This is what he told his disciples when they were worried that he was leaving. We do not need to worry. He is always there with our salvation, and he prepares a beautiful place for us.

Everything on this earth is temporary and will not last. Do not find your joy here. His act of love and kindness providing our salvation is where we find our joy.

Psalms 23 – The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This verse is for life, when we need comfort but can be used for encouragement as well in our darkest moments – no matter what we are going through we can go through it with JOY because our Salvation remains. That is true JOY. When you have Salvation, you have everything you need.

Revelations 21: 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

I do not own the rights to this song. They belong to their rightful owners

In this week’s sermon, Pastor Dave explained the importance of a word he found in a book he was given by one of his professors regarding writing sermons.

The word is Altruism. The definition of Altruism as found in the dictionary is the belief in or practice of disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others.

(1) Service – Looking out for others. Matthew 20: 25-28
The ministry is not the person at the pulpit. Ministry is how you live your life. To give your life, is service.

(2) Seeking another’s welfare. Philippians 2: 2-4
It can be as simple as checking in on someone with a text or a call, taking someone some food that you know has just been laid off, paying it forward. God expects this of us, and we are to do it with JOY.

It does not have to cost money or food. It can be your time. You can clean or cut grass for someone who is not able. You can speak a kind word and share Jesus. The most important thing we can give, and share is the good news about our Lord. Acts 20: 32-35

Who are we putting first? Are we sharing the beauty and glory of Christ with others?

Are there examples in the Bible of Altruism?

(1) Moses – Exodus 32: 30-34 – Moses asks for his name to be taken out of the book for them. He asked for them to be left in and his name to be removed. He put others 1st.

(2) Jesus – Philippians 2: 5-8 – He died for you, me, our neighbors, and we need to share this with others.

(3) Paul – 1 Corinthians 9: 19-23 – When we are doing the Lords work, we are laying up our treasures in heaven. We will be rewarded for what we do. He was sent to the Gentiles – to people like you and me.

This week – Lets do something for someone else and share God’s word 😊

We miss all of you VERY much! We do not have the capabilities to go live from the church. We are trying to work towards recording the sermons and making a YouTube video to post but my internet has not cooperated with that either. However, I CAN post some notes from the sermons so I will do my best to start doing that each week during this time.

Today’s sermon came from Galatians 4. When Paul went to the Galatians, he was sick. Still, they did not turn him away. He taught them the way of Christ and reminded them that their old friends were leading them astray. It is the same today. People will lead us astray if we let them. Paul wanted them to see the correct way. He loved them. He wanted to work with them and show them the true way of a Christian. Are we after flesh? Are we after promise? Flesh is of the world. The ways of the world chain us to sin and away from God. I hope we are after promise. We are an heir of God through Christ. We want to live by Grace. We are born anew. A child of the King shouldn’t live like a slave of the world 😊

Pastor Dave will be at the church at 11:00 a.m. for anyone who would like to come to pray, take communion etc. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 we will not be greeting at the door and will make every effort to properly sanitize and spread those who do attend out to maintain the recommended distance. We encourage everyone to do what you feel is best in your specific situation. We want everyone to be safe and healthy. With that said, we would like to keep the church doors open, at least in some way, so our members and our community knows that we are here to help in any way we can.

For those sheltering in place, Pastor Dave’s friend and colleague, Rod Kasler from Martins Ferry First Christian Church will be live streaming his message. We do not have the ability to provide this service but we are thankful that they do. The link will be provided below. We encourage you to watch Rod’s message, continue your time in prayer and read the Bible.

If you have prayer requests during this time away from one another, please message us and we will add them to our lists.

We will do our best to help in any way we can during these challenging times.
