The Brentwood Church is closing its door on August 2nd. As we close the church we look back at all the awesome ministries we have been blessed to be a part of! God is Good!
Also we look forward to all God is going to do with the ministry that is going to be based out of the Brentwood Church Building.

Psalm 46: 1-3: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” The comfort and courage God gives us is external protection with internal power.
There’s devastation and destruction all around us; we don’t have to hide in fear because God is our refuge and strength! Psalm 91:15-16: “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him my salvation.” As Born-again Believers God speaks to us through prevailing prayer. Webster defines prevailing this way: To produce or achieve the desired effect: to succeed. Do you believe God is the prayer hearing and prayer answering God? God answers our prayers although sometimes not in the way we expect or want them answered. God wants more than just a drive by prayer from us! God is just a prayer away. Is our prayer life centered on achieving God’s desired goal for our lives? Is our prayer life set up to succeed? 2 Peter 1:4: “Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” God has given us great precious promises that show us God delivers us from sin. The reason so many Christians are weak and fail in times of trouble is they neglect God’s promises. If we neglect the promises of God when times of testing comes we can’t find God’s comfort or strength. God’s promises assure us of God’s protection and provision and show us God is our refuge and strength a very present help in trouble. There have been times in my faith-walk if it weren’t for God’s promises I would have thrown in the towel and given up. God’s promises have guided me through the storms of life I have been going through! For God to help us we must read, study, review, reflect, hide in your heart, and rely on God’s promises in times of trouble. John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” All the peace we have, all the courage, confidence, and strength come from the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit God gives us personal peace even in the middle of life’s worst storms. There is unrest all around us as millions of people are searching for peace but they look in all the wrong places. True peace comes from having a personal relationship with Jesus. By accepting Jesus as Savior and Lord we begin to experience peace that passes all understanding. Do you have personalized peace? As Born-again Believers we are not immune to troubles. We are going to go through trails, troubles, and times of testing. We do not have some magical pass that exempts us from troubles when we accept Jesus as Savior and Lord of our lives. Scripture tells us all these things work for our good. To build our faith! God shows us His power and glory. God is our always-present help in times of trouble. If this were not true I wouldn’t preach it nor would I endeavor to live the Christian life because it would be impossible! Cling to God. 1 Corinthians 15:57: “Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” If your mind is filled with negative thoughts and failure you will never win. But if you focus your mind’s eye on victory and hope you will overcome. Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” You can either live in doom and gloom or you can live in hope. King David didn’t allowed himself to focus on the problems; David isn’t remembered as a blues singer, although David went through many battles, failures, and difficulties in life. David wept and mourned but he learned to live in praise as we see in: Psalms 42:5: “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me: Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help.” Living in praise in essential to victorious living. Praise builds courage, praise builds faith, and praise puts faith into action. Building on faith pleases and excites God because when we have faith we are trusting God. Hebrews 11:6: “And without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” Praising God in the middle of trials and tribulations is like saying: God you are my source of strength and though storms rise and winds howl I trust you. Praise brings the power of Heaven to us. To live in victory you must get your eyes off of circumstances you are facing: Peter got out of the boat and focused on Jesus not the storm: As Peter’s attention shifted to the storm he began to sink. So get your eyes off the circumstance and focus on Jesus. Spiritual attacks can overwhelm us and make it hard not to focus on the problems that we are dealing with. Spiritual attacks hurt, bring pain, and suffering but know this Jesus is our champion, our refuge, our strong tower, and our shelter in the storm. Focus on God’s Promises not the problems. To many Christians give up when they come under attack. They want to just sit down and not move. They think if I don’t do anything maybe the devil won’t notice me, and leave me alone; if you believe this you are existing in defeat. When you are defeated your forward progress stops, your prayer life stops, your Devotional life stops, and your Commitment to service stops. Some people sit in church pews and haven’t done anything for the kingdom of God in years and blame it on lack of time or on being burned out. They look for any excuse to get out of doing ministry. Don’t live in defeat do something!!! When Peter got out of the boat to walk on the water there wasn’t mad rush behind him of other disciple’s jumping out of the boat with Peter! You don’t have to remain in defeat. Don’t focus on problems focus on the promise. As you begin focusing on victory you will find God provides victory in every situation of your life. God Bless You!

God longs to free us from being stuck in a spiritual rut and wants to plant our feet on the rock of His Salvation! The lyrics to the song Plant My Feet On Higher Ground are: “I’m pressing on the upward way new heights I am gaining everyday; Still praying as I’m onward bound, Lord plant my feet on higher ground.” God wants to move us to the place where we have such a firm foot hold that even the storms of life will not move us! Colossians 3:1-4: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Higher spiritual ground is the place where we leave the hurts, hang-ups, and habits that hold us back and begin to be changed from the inside out! Higher ground is where we put Jesus on the throne and we put king me on the cross!” Higher spiritual ground is where we share Jesus with the world around us. God wants us to share His love, grace, mercy, and salvation with other people. We must not be prideful or arrogant, we need to share the gospel with love and humility; we must not get distracted and step down from higher spiritual ground by being conformed to the world around us. There are people who claim to be a Christian but are numb to sin and see it as an alternative lifestyle or as a new way of thinking. When people come to this point they are in a dangerous place if you are at this crossroad turn toward higher spiritual ground. We must set our mind on things above not on things here. Let’s become nonconformists who are focused on the God even if it means people call you a bible-thumper or Jesus freak; it’s ok because that’s what you are! To be on spiritual higher ground means spending time in prayer and in the Bible God’s handbook of life. Higher spiritual ground is the place were God remolds us in his image, spiritual higher ground is the place we die to our old sinful nature and put on God’s holy nature is a process that will take you a lifetime to complete! As Born-again Believers we should have certain characteristics in our lives that are impossible to acquire without being on higher ground through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. It is impossible for us to love the person who has drug our name through the mud without having our feet planted on higher ground. Higher ground is where we put on love. Putting on love is going on to Christian perfection, loving the Lord your God with all your heart and loving your neighbor as yourself! You can plant your feet on higher spiritual ground by putting God first, by realize you are no better than the worst sinner, by understanding the only thing that separates us from the worst person we can think of is we have accepted God’s saving grace through Jesus sacrifice on Calvary’s cross and they haven’t. The challenge is to begin the journey to higher spiritual ground! Higher ground is the place where we meet Jesus in an intimate way! God Bless you! In Christ’s Love: Pastor Bill

Hebrews 4:12: “The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” John 1:14: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Jesus fulfilled all the Biblical prophecies about the Messiah: Jesus came and took our place on the cross: Jesus died so that we can accept God’s redemptive gift of Salvation by asking the Lord God to forgive us of our sins by making Jesus our Savior. Many Christians stop with accepting Jesus as Savior but Jesus wants to take you beyond the cross! Jesus wants you to enter into the holy of holies where you make Him Lord of all! People and possessions will fail you but God’s Word is always dependable because God will never let you down! Friends may hurt you, family may disown you, your spouse may discourage you but God’s Word is always there to pick you up and place your feet on the solid foundation of Jesus the Christ! Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” We can trust in God’s Word because God Word never fails, never changes. God’s Word was not only applicable for the people who lived when it was written it is still alive today! Are you leaning and relying on God’s word? There are very few things that last through eternity. God’s word is everlasting and will not fail! Down through the ages people have set out to disprove the Bible but when the smoke cleared many of these people came to the place where they began to believe and ask Jesus to be their Savior!
The fact is God’s word is timeless and ageless God’s word works today just as much as it did in the 1st century. Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”! The main purpose for scripture is to teach us true doctrine so we don’t let false teachers lead us astray. There are people who claim to have true doctrine when in fact they are part of the emergent church, which means they don’t believe in any absolute truth! The Bible gives us many absolute truths here are a couple: All religions don’t lead to heaven, there is only one way to heaven which is by accepting Jesus who is with God and is God! There is a real place called heaven and a real place called hell. Heaven is where God longs for us to be and Hell is where the devil and unforgiven sin will lead many people to. God’s word is great because God gave His word to faithful people who recorded and preserved it. God’s word has stood the test of time, skepticism, misuse, and abuse. God’s word has and will never fail! Psalm 119:89-90 “Forever O Lord Your word is settled in Heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations: You established the earth and it abides.” God’s word is great because it’s timely Romans 15:4 “For whatever things are written for our learning that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.” Aren’t you glad God’s word is for all people, in all places, and for all times? It is still as potent today as it was the day the authors wrote it! God’s one and only Son Jesus came as the light to the world that overcomes darkness! God’s word is quick and powerful Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful and shaper than any two-edges sword piercing even to the division of the soul and spirit and joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” God’s word promises pardon, purity, peace, and purpose if we trust and obey! I challenge you to tap into the power of God’s word through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit which comes to us by accepting Jesus as Savior! If you have already had a taste of how great God’s word is your challenge is to go beyond the cross into the holy of holies by making Jesus Lord of all your life! God Bless You! There's No Problem to Big for God!

As Born-again Believers we receive God’s blessings of forgiveness and forgetfulness. Ephesians 1:7 “In Him we have redemption though His blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace.” When we repent of our sins we receive God’s forgiveness and the power to overcome the guilt of sin! Through the riches of God’s grace we can receive the gift of salvation because of what Jesus did for us on Calvary’s cross! God wipes the slate clean as He takes our sins and throws them into the Sea of forgetfulness! Many people want to forgive but find it impossible because they remember the injustice which brings feelings of resentment and anger which causes folks to retract forgiveness and eventually be overcome by bitterness and resentment! We are called to forgive and to forget: Matthew 6:15: “But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your father forgive your trespasses.” To forgive we must learn to forget, to forget we must pray daily for the one who we have forgiven then pray for the strength to overcome! If we do we will eventually also forget! When we accept Jesus as Savior we receive the double blessing of forgiveness and forgotten-ness! We receive God’s double blessing of sanctification and satisfaction: 1 Thessalonians 5:23 “Now may the God of peace satisfy you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” As Born-again Believers we are called to be totally committed to the Lord so can’t try to reserve a part of ourselves for selfish purposes we must surrender all: mind, soul, body, and spirit. God isn’t an insurance agent who sells fire insurance policies; God gives salvation full and free! God doesn’t want us to have just enough Jesus to make it to heaven. God wants all of us, this is called sanctification; which means we make Jesus not only our Savoir but also Lord of all! When we surrender ourselves to God we will be cleansed, sanctified, and spirit-filled. This is not man-made doctrine it’s a Biblical principal! We have discontentment and dissatisfaction all around us. We have the answers to this problem just look at Psalm 107:9 “For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” God is the answer if you want contentment and satisfaction; if we put God first we receive God’s double blessing of sanctification and satisfaction! God teaches and touches: Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go: I will guide you with my eye.” God longs to teach us his will and his ways, to learn from God we must have a teachable spirit, if we think we know it all we cannot learn and grow. Psalm 32:9 “Do not be like a horse or like the mule, which have no understanding. Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will come near you.” The second part of this double blessing is we will be touched. Matthew 8:3 “Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him saying: “I am willing, be cleansed;” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” Jesus reaches out to us with compassion and love so why do we run from his touch? To have double blessing from God we must accept God’s touch and be willing to share it with others! Are you willing to not only receive God’s double blessing but also to be a part of God’s double blessing for others? Do you trust God to touch you not only is spiritual ways but also in physical, emotional, and mental ways? Receive this double blessing let God teach you and touch you! We receive God’s double blessing of reassurance and reception: John 14:1-3: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” These are words of reassurance and hope that show us God wants to receive us! Many people are filled with anger, frustration, and insecurity. Many people seeking peace and security in all the wrong places: There is one place we can go and are guaranteed to find true peace and eternal security; this place is in the arms of Jesus. All who’ll receive Jesus as savior are secure in God’s family. No one can take them out of God’s family but themselves! Jesus promised that he would come and receive us. “What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see, when I look upon his face the one who saved me by his grace then he’ll take me by the hand and lead me through the promised land what a day glorious day that will be!” No more sin, sorrow, sickness, or suffering. When I was young I remember going to revival services where the preacher tried to scare Hell out of your soul. This worked for the moment but a few days or weeks later I would be right back doing my own thing. Loving God more than fearing Hell means we follow God because of God’s love for us and our love for God; this is being whole hearted! Being whole hearted means we live life like today is our last day on earth. Being wholehearted means we are completely devoted to God so we have the joy of salvation alive in us! Being wholehearted means we pray as much as we worry. Being wholehearted means since God has forgiven us we forgive ourselves. Being wholehearted isn’t mission impossible. There’s one man in the Bible who truly exemplifies wholeheartedness: Jesus never did anything half way. He was focused on being wholehearted. Jesus’ entire focus was to follow God’s plan for His life. Jesus’ eyes were fixed on God’s will. When we look at Jesus we see wholeheartedness in action. The Gospel of Mark starts out with John the Baptist: Mark 1:7-8: “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of His sandals. I have baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit”. John was wholehearted John prepared the way for Jesus. When Jesus was baptized heaven opened up and God spoke to Jesus “You are my Son, the beloved with you I am well pleased.” Immediately after His baptism the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness for 40 days to be tested. Notice the Spirit lead Jesus into the wilderness, Jesus never ever tried to do anything without the power of the Holy Spirit! Do the trials in your life cause you run away and hide or do they drive you to your knees to the place where wholeheartedness begins? Being whole hearted means we let go of religion and get a firm grip on Jesus as we become spirit-led, spirit-filled, Born-again Believers who find true freedom. True freedom causes us to get involved in ministry because we will want to share the gospel with others because we want other people to experience the gift of salvation from God we have received! Many Christians don’t understand that we are in a war and our enemy is very dangerous! The devil is smart and conquers from within by using little insignificant things to distract us. He will hit us hardest when we are focused on being wholehearted! The devil is trying to destroy the church from the inside by trying to drive wedges between brothers and sisters in Christ! Being wholehearted means we become thick skinned! To be ready to win this war we must put on the whole armor of God daily: The helmet salvation, breast plate righteousness, griddle of truth sandals gospel, shield of faith, and sword of the spirit. Being wholehearted means we rely on God’s strength and power and are willing to take back stolen ground! Jesus let God use Him where He was, when Jesus preformed miracles He gave the ones He was ministering to His undivided attention, whether they were demon possessed or had an illness, Jesus was tuned into the situation because He was tuned into God! Being wholehearted means we pray. Jesus understood the power of prayer. Prayer is the key that unlocks the door of wholeheartedness! Prayer plugs us into God’s power... Jesus understood the importance of taking time to get alone with God. To be wholehearted we must plug into prayer! This might sound selfish but it’s not; for us to take care of other people’s needs we must first take care of our spiritual needs this is vital and Jesus understood this.
