WORDS FROM OUR PASTOR
Matthew 18:21-35 is all about forgiveness. When it some to forgiveness, how much is enough? How much do we need to forgive? How often should we be doing all we can to wash away the stains which weaken the bonds between us, which take their toll on our sense of well- being - our very own peace, not to mention the peace between us.? Join us this Sunday as learn what it means to forgive …. Again…and again…and again.

+ HYMN #1 “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”
CALL TO WORSHIP
L: Children of God, when we face strife, upset, and harm in our midst, we so often turn
to God and ask:
P: How many times should I forgive?
L: When Jesus answers that we should forgive again and again and again, we are tempted to repeat the question:
P: How many times should I forgive?
L: Until God turns the question around: “How many times have I forgiven you?”
P: Seventy time seven.
L: How many times have I loved you?
P: Seventy times seven.
L: How many times has my grace been sufficient for you?
P: Seventy times seven.
L: Let us learn, then, how to forgive not out of our own power, but out of God’s, who
forgives us that we might be free to learn to live with one another well.
OFFERING INVITATION
As we give, let us do so generously and cheerfully, for God knows both our outward
acts and inward position.
OFFERTORY SONG “Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy” Arr: M Wells
+ DOXOLOGY (On screen)
+ PRAYER OF DEDICATION (together)
Generous God, you have given so much to us in love and joy – every good thing in our life reflects your caring. Even in the giving of our offerings, we have tried our best but know we could do more. In a world where forgiveness has become a rare
commodity, it is often an asset we hold back to maintain power over one another. Help us to hear the teaching of Jesus in the generosity of forgiveness. May we learn to give that to others with extravagance! We pray in Christ’s name, who gave all.
Amen.
BIBLICAL WITNESS Matthew 18:21-35 by Jane Huff

P: Thanks be to God.

MESSAGE “Forgive…Again…and Again…and Again”
by Pastor Chuck
PRAYER FOR PEACE (together)
O God, the world you have created is torn apart by war and fighting. Revenge and
retaliation move us to hate and even kill. Children bereft of parents go starving in the
streets. Terror and fear threaten to win the day. Please send the peace of your Spirit to permeate our earth. Sooth our anger and turn us away from vengeance. Foster forgiveness in our hearts. Cool the fires of war, and bring estranged people to make
peace. Break the chain of violence and recrimination. Flood this world with your
peace, and fill its creatures with the knowledge of you, O Lord. Amen
