Hayes Alexander Gannaway

Hayes Alexander Gannaway, 94 of Bessemer, AL, passed on May 30, 2026. He retired from Jefferson County Water Treatment Plant after many years of service. He was an ordained Deacon and served for 15 years as Minister of Music at Vineland Park Baptist Church in Hueytown. He was most recently a member of Baptist Church at McCalla.

Hayes is preceded in death by his parents, John and Myrtle Gannaway; his wife of 75 years, Etta M. Gannaway; son, Alan Gannaway; and sister, Clarice Wade. He is survived by his children, Steven Gannaway (Teresa) and Susan Lacey; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Patterson Forest Grove Funeral Home from 10:30 AM until the start of service. Funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM with burial in the Patterson Forest Grove Memorial Gardens. Pastor Bill McCall officiating.

Pearl Marie Standifer

Pearl Marie Standifer, age 94 of Sylvan Springs, passed away May 27, 2026. Pearl was born February 22, 1932 in Clanton, Alabama as one of three children. She is predeceased by her husband, Albert Standifer; brother, Jimmy McDowell and her sister, Ruby Dawson and her parents, James Lawton and Ada Beatrice Grant McDowell.

Survivors include her three sons, David Standifer (Ramona), Dan Standifer (Betty) and Brett Standifer (Tina), along with 9 grandchildren, 13 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marie was known for her creativeness and love for the residents of Self Nursing and Rehab where she served as the Activities Director for 25 years. She always looked forward to and enjoyed planning activities until her retirement. She loved her family and enjoyed spending as much time with them as she possibly could.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 29, 2026 in the chapel of Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home, 1498 5th Avenue, Pleasant Grove, Al 35127, beginning at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service with Bro. Mike Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Grove Memorial Gardens immediately after the service.

Robert Jackson Boutwell

Robert Jackson Boutwell, 57 of Birmingham, AL, passed on May 21, 2026. He was a longtime member of Open Door church where he was a member of the audio/visual team. He was an audio/vide professional in the private sector, as well.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. and Mary A. Boutwell and sister, Katherine Lewis. He is survived by wife of 27, years, Christa Cooper Boutwell; sister, Linda Fitzgerald (Billy); furry friend, Bella; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Patterson Forest Grove Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until the start of service. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM in the chapel with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Pastor Rick Cooper officiating.

Nancy McDaniel Mills

Nancy McDaniel Mills, age 86 of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 while a resident at The One Above Family Home Care facility in Huntsville, Alabama. Nancy was born, raised and raised her own family in the Birmingham area until 2019 when she moved to live closer to her son, Randy and his family.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Dudley and Myrtle McDaniel; her husband, Fred S. Mills, Jr; two children, Cindy Hendrix and Eddie Mills. Nancy is survived by one son, Fred Randal Mills (Pam); 4 grandchildren, Holly Lewis (Rusty), Randi Dry, (Kevin), Jodi Jacobson, (Brian), Matthew Mills (Hannah); 11 great grandchildren; her younger sister, Joan Andrews; and her beloved cousin, Betty Byers—to whom she spoke with and prayed with on a daily basis.

Nancy loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She taught children’s Sabbath School for many years in both Birmingham and Hueytown. Nancy loved her family, including her husband of 64 years—Fred S. Mills. Nancy and Fred eloped to Mississippi when they were just teenagers and sort of grew up together with their 3 children, Randy, Cindy and Eddie.

Nancy had a beautiful smile which beautifully complemented her job as Receptionist at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham where she daily, generously and cheerfully welcomed children, parents, medical workers and other employees for 25 years. Nancy awaits, along with all who believe, the Great Day of God Almighty of whom the Bible says:

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16–18

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Patterson Forest Grove Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral service will begin in the chapel at 11:00 AM with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Pastor Jonathan Davidson officiating.

Paul Alan Brigman

Mr. Paul Alan Brigman, age 77 of McCalla, passed away at his residence on Monday, May 18, 2026. Paul is predeceased by his parents, Roland and Helen Marie Brigman and his youngest daughter, Laney Ana Brigman. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Debbie Brigman; daughter, Courtney Gilliland (Shayne); brother, Ronnie Brigman (Judy); granddaughters, Kelsey Rayne Gilliland (Michael) and Raylee Gilliland; stepdaughter, Katrina Hannah; step son, Christopher Hannah; grandson, Braxton Hopper and Mathew, Gabriel & Jacob Hannah; his fur baby, Coco; and a host of other beloved family and friends.

Known as P.P. by most, he had a love for his family as well as Alabama Football, racing, fishing and BB guns. Paul served his country proudly as a member of the United States Air Force. He had a great life and will be missed greatly.

Graveside funeral service will be held Friday, May 22, 2026 at Forest Grove Memorial Gardens, 1498 5th Avenue, Pleasant Grove, Al 35127, beginning at 11:00 AM. There will be no visitation held prior to the service.

John Charles Thomas, Sr

John Charles Thomas, Sr., age 65, of Pleasant Grove, Al passed away at his residence on May 12, 2026. He is survived by his two sons, John Charles Thomas, Jr. "Jack" and Kevin Thomas; sisters in law, Linda Jenkins (Randall) and Jackie McDonough (Joey); brother in law, John Mize (Trish) and a host of cousins and friends.

Troy Edam Hosmer, III

Troy “Bud” Hosmer, age 68, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2026, surrounded by loving family.

A proud graduate of Minor High School’s Class of 1975, Bud dedicated 22 years of his life to serving his country in the United States Navy. After his military career, he spent 17 successful years in sales with Spray Equipment Company before retiring about three years ago.

Bud never met a stranger. Known for his humor, quick wit, storytelling, and natural ability to make people feel welcome, he left a lasting impression everywhere he went. He deeply loved his family and took pride in being a husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; first son Troy Hosmer with wife Kyla and his only granddaughter Shayla; and second son Chris Hosmer; his sisters, Wanda St. John and Nancy Schoen; his stepdaughter, Tori Farris, and stepson, Matt Farris; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

In accordance with Bud’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. He was cremated, and his ashes will be respectfully returned to the ocean in a traditional private burial-at-sea naval ceremony.

We salute you with a final “Fair winds and following seas.”

Luther Marvin Claytor

Luther Marvin Claytor, 86 of McCalla, AL, passed on May 16, 2026. He was a member of UMWA Local 2397. Luther was a deacon at Valley Creek Baptist Church. He was an avid Alabama fan. He loved all of his fur babies but Bubba was his favorite.

Luther is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Judy A. Claytor and brother, Bobby Claytor. He will be fondly remembered by his nephew, Tim Davis (Rhonda); granddaughter, Ella Grave Davis; and many other relatives and friends.

Jerry Elaine Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior an May 12, 2025 joining her grandparents, parents, and husband. Jerry leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Randi, Shelby, McKenzie and Kelsea Smith; grandchildren, Harley, Damian, Lillian, Emily, Soma and Gabriel; grandmother, Kathi Strickland; sisters, Heather King and Wendy Aguillon; niece and nephew, Courtney and James King; and her significant other, Jason Clevenger.

Jerry is preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Connie Lewis; parents, Jerry Strickland and Elaine Eubanks; her husband, Mark Smth.
