Scripture establishes a clear boundary between devotion to the true God and engagement with false religion. God demands exclusive allegiance, forbidding worship of other gods or bowing to carved images (Exod 20:3–5), and this prohibition extends beyond mere physical idols to encompass competing spiritual claims. Paul urges believers to “flee from idolatry,” (1 Cor 10:14) while the temple of God cannot coexist with idols, requiring believers to “come out from among them and be separate” (2 Cor 6:16–17).

The biblical reasoning behind this stance rests on both theological and spiritual grounds. While idols themselves are nothing, Christians recognize one God the Father and one Lord Jesus Christ through whom all things exist (1 Cor 8:4–6)—a conviction that makes competing truth claims fundamentally incompatible. More strikingly, what non-Christians sacrifice to idols they actually sacrifice to demons, not to God, and believers should not have fellowship with demons (1 Cor 10:19–22). This transforms the question from mere intellectual disagreement into spiritual danger.
