Mark 1:16-34

Jesus Demonstrates Authority In 3 Areas

1. Authority over disinterested people in worship. v. 21-22
Jesus spoke and the people were ASTONISHED.
Are we still astonished today about Jesus and His Word?
Every Sunday as you prepare for gathered worship, pray that God will give you fresh eyes
and fresh ears. "Open my eyes that I may see YOU and open my ears that I
may hear YOU."

2. Authority over demons. v. 23-27
Satan hides in dead religion.
Demons hang out in churches that don't preach the Word!

We have no reason to fear demons. The GOD in US terrifies Satan and his demons!

3. Authority over disease. v. 29-31
"and she began to serve them."
The best display of gratitude is to serve God by serving others.

Big Idea: We should still be amazed and astonished by the power of Jesus working in our
lives and the lives of others.

*Prepare the Way by living a consistent Christlike lifestyle. James 1:22-25

*Prepare the Way by allowing the Holy Spirit to produce fruit in your life. Galatians 5:22-23

*Prepare the Way by telling others your God Story. Psalm 66:16

Big Idea: John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus. We to can prepare the way for Jesus to transform lives by living as HIS ambassadors.

NEEDED - To have a life changing encounter with Jesus Christ.

SPIRITUAL INFANT
NOW - Uninformed, confused
"I don't have to go to church to be a Christian". "I don't have time to be in a Grow Group. It's me and God. He understands."
NEEDED - Attention, Explanation, Instruction, Growth

SPIRITUAL CHILD
NOW - Prideful, Knowledge w/ Condemnation, Self-centered
"Music wasn't the best today." I wish Pastor Mike preached more like...."
NEEDED - Humility w/ hospitality for the least.
Discipline with devotion for God's Word. Love for God's church.
