"for if you are living according to the [impulses of the] flesh, you are going to die. But if [you are living] by the [power of the Holy] Spirit you are habitually putting to death the sinful deeds of the body, you will [really] live forever." Romans 8:13 (AMP)
"Even so, consider yourselves to be dead to sin [and your relationship to it broken], but alive to God [in unbroken fellowship with Him] in Christ Jesus." Romans 6:11 (AMP)
"And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature together with its passions and appetites." Galatians 5:24 (AMP)
I love fall! The chilly nights, the hoodies, the pumpkin spice theme that drowns our society, the reminder that Thanksgiving and family time approaches, the promise of Winter and the snows it may bring...the HOODIES.
Above ALL of those wonderful things, I love how BEAUTIFUL the trees are...full of fiery-orange, deep red, and golden-yellow colors that Bob Ross himself had difficulty re-creating.
Nature reminds us there is beauty in death.
There's beauty in death to self.
Are there things you need to die to for your relationship with the Lord?
Are there things you need to die to for your MARRIAGE?
Our Abba calls us to so much more than this world has to offer.
That habitual act of dying to self daily can hurt. And not just us. It can hurt others as well. But, allowing yourself to walk through those hurtful things is SO much better than staying where you are. SO much better than saying "I'm fine" when you're not at all. Because He's calling you to MORE. He's calling you to a place of HEALING. But that only happens when you walk through the mess, trusting that God Almighty is faithful when He says he never leaves us.
And the JOY that comes with healing and freedom from those deep hurts is SO MUCH GREATER than the fleeting pain attached to the desires of this world and the hurt of the past.
“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and s*x and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
- C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory, and Other Addresses
Don't settle for mud pies.
I know you may not WANT to, but if there are things you NEED to walk through and need a listening ear, send me a private message and we can schedule something.
