There are just two Sundays left in our "Summer in Rome" series.
This Sunday we look at Romans 13:1-7, in which Paul urges the Christians in Rome to submit to the governing authorities. Keep in mind that the emperor at the time was Nero.
How can we follow Romans 13 in our own time? What about civil disobedience? How do we respond to Christian nationalists who argue that Romans 13 gives the government the right to enforce their particular understanding of Christianity?
And how can we talk respectfully about these issues in Church, especially when we have differing political views? If we say that the church shouldn't talk about these issues at all, then how do we care for those who are anxious or angry, knowing that the issues that make some of us anxious are the same ones that make others of us angry and vice versa?
Whatever your political leanings, I hope you can join us for a thoughtful and prayerful exploration of Romans 13 and what it means for us today.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jack
