There will be no worship service tomorrow evening. We pray that you have a safe peaceful, and restful holiday honoring the contributions, hard work and achievements of workers who build and strengthen our communities in the United States of America.

This is an exciting year because both Mt. Olive School and Mt. Olive WOMEN4CHRIST will be supporting the same mission. We will be collecting empty prescription pill bottles, along with crocheted hats and washcloths, which will be sent to Zambia/CAMM to help support medical and obstetric care within the community. We will send financial support directly to CAMM (Central Africa Medical Mission) as opposed to buying items in the States because it is extremely costly to mail packages. Using these financial donations, Zambia/CAMM can help infuse finances into the local community by making medical purchases there in Africa and many of the items are available to purchase in the field at a better price. Go to https://camm.us or contact our church office (913-492-9740) to learn more!

When danger strikes, most people instinctively move away from it. Yet first responders do the opposite. Firefighters, police officers, and paramedics run toward the very scenes others are fleeing. They enter burning buildings, approach violent situations, and kneel beside the injured in chaotic moments. This response is unexpected because it goes against basic human instinct.

Today God calls us to be spiritual first responders when we see people in trouble because of sin.

Join us for worship as we learn how God calls us away from self-preservation and comfort in service to him!

Our annual Silent Auction is approaching and we are looking for donations! The auction will run from Oct. 9th-18th. All proceeds will go toward benefiting our comprehensive education fund, to help purchase new cheerleading uniforms, supplies for our community garden, supplies to support our Fine Arts Program, and to continue to give our kids opportunities to learn and grow in Christ.

Donations are needed by September 27th.

Some churches teach that if a person follows God, God responds by granting prosperity and peace, as would only be expected. Today we see how that is nonsense. The Bible explains that if we are part of the Church of God, we will have to bear crosses.

We carry our crosses because we know that in those moments of struggle, we are forced to turn to Christ and rely on his strength.

Join us for worship as we explore an unexpected path, the one Jesus himself walked: the cross comes before the crown.

Jesus asked, “Who do you say I am?” It’s the most important question in the world, and it is a question every human being must answer.

Jesus is a real human being, the Son of Man. He is also Lord and Savior, the Son of the living God. This unexpected truth is the core of saving faith.

Join us for worship as we understand how Jesus is both true man and true God—an unexpected truth!

“All are welcome!” Is that true at our church? Or is church meant only for people of the right heritage who behave the right way, “good church folk”?

Join us for worship as Jesus shows us the church is for all people–regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, or social status.

Our new series “Unexpected Truths” begins Sunday!

08/09/2026

The opening lines of the United States Declaration of Independence boldly assert that certain truths are “self-evident”—truths accessible to human reason and widely recognized by observation of the world.

Lutherans, however, note that the most important truths revealed in the Bible are not self-evident at all. In fact, they frequently appear surprising or even contrary to human expectations.

Biblical truth is revealed by God rather than discovered by reason alone. While some truths may seem obvious to human judgment, the truths of the Bible are often unexpected.

Next week, we begin a new series and discover the unexpected truths God reveals to us. We invite you to join us for worship!
