We will celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi in a special way once again this year. The feast, or rather the solemnity, of Corpus Christi -- The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ -- is celebrated in the United States on the second Sunday after Pentecost. This means that this year we will be celebrating it Sunday, June 7th. The Sunday Mass Prayers and reading for Corpus Christi focus our attention on Jesus’ gift of Himself to us in the Eucharist. This is to be celebrated in each Catholic Church.

The special way that we hope to celebrate Corpus Christi this year is with an outdoor Eucharist procession. The procession will follow the 10:45 a.m. Sunday Mass. A Host consecrated during the Mass is placed in the monstrance after the Mass and usually carried in procession with candles and incense, often under a canopy. The procession proceeds to several stations or altars where the Eucharistic blessing or benediction is given. Litanies, readings and songs are generally a part of Eucharist procession is a more vivid expression of our love for Our Lord’s presence in the Eucharist and our desire to follow Him in our lives.

Mass will be at 9 a.m. today. Please consider attending Mass on Memorial Day and praying for all who are deceased, especially for the loved ones of your family and for all who have died in the service of our country.

A prayer of an English Dominican priest, Fr. Bede Jarrett, O.P., expresses the importance of viewing death with the eyes of faith. Fr. Jarrett’s prayer is as follows:

We seem to give them back to thee, O God, who gavest them to us. Yet, as thou didst not lose them in giving, so do we note lose them by their return. Not as the world giveth, givest thou, O lover of souls. What thou givest, thou takest no away, for what is thine is ours also if we are thine. And life is eternal and love is immortal, and death is only an horizon, and an horizon is nothing, save the limit of our sight. Lift us up, strong Son of God, that we may see further; cleanse our eyes that we may see more clearly; draw us closer to thyself that we may know ourselves to be nearer to our loved ones who art with thee. And while thou dost prepare a place for us, prepare us also for that happy place, that where thou are we may be also forevermore.

Happy Mother's Day 💐

The most important person on earth is a mother, she cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral—a dwelling for an immortal soul...The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature. God joins forces with mothers on performing this act of creation...What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother?
