The Avilas is a diocesan organization of women and men who, under the patronage of St. Teresa of Jesus from Avila, are committed to a ministry to increase vocations. St. Teresa, founder of the Discalced Carmelites, was born in Avila, Spain in 1515. Her special gift to the Church in our time is to teach us to pray, and to persevere in the conviction that prayer is the foundation of apostolic work. St. Teresa of Jesus was named a Doctor of the Church in 1970.

The Avilas meet the First Friday of each month for the Mass at 8:15 a.m. and for prayers afterward. Please join them this Friday in praying for religious vocations.

The Church celebrates the feast of the Assumption each year on August 15th. On the feast of the Assumption, the Church commemorates the Blessed Virgin Mary going to heaven, at the end of her life, both body and soul. We both honor Mary on this feast, and also are reminded of our heavenly goal.

Please note there are two Masses scheduled this year:
Friday, August 14th at 5:15 p.m.
Saturday, August 15th at 8:15 a.m.

*not a day of obligation this year.
