This week, the invitation goes out to everyone in the streets: The banquet is ready and the table is set, and Isaiah sees it whole, with a feast of rich food on the mountain, death swallowed up forever, every tear wiped away. Moses stands in the breach as Israel worships a golden calf, interceding for a stiff-necked people with the only argument that holds: remember your promises. God relents, because mercy endures forever. Paul writes from prison with inexplicable joy: Rejoice, the Lord is near, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Grace precedes us into every room we enter and follows us out.
