🔥 Ogden brush fire near Church & Homes flares back up; Human-Caused
A fast-moving brush fire that ignited Thursday afternoon near Trinity Presbyterian Church flared up again early Saturday morning (7/25/26) prompting firefighters to return to the scene off Tyler Avenue to extinguish renewed flames and secure the perimeter.
🔍 Fire officials confirmed the fire was human-caused, though the precise ignition source—and whether Saturday’s flare-up resulted from lingering embers or a secondary ignition—remains under active investigation.
The initial fire broke out around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, in dry vegetation roughly 100 feet from Trinity Presbyterian Church. I’m told the Ogden Fire Department responded within 5 minutes, deploying units from Stations 1, 2, 3, and 4 alongside multiple brush trucks. Nearby residents were asked to evacuate.
First responders quickly halted the fire's forward progress before it could reach surrounding homes and church structures. The fire made it within 40’ of the church before being extinguished. Crews spent hours dousing hot spots while Ogden Police officers patrolled the neighborhood and monitored the perimeter with thermal-equipped drones.
Preliminary estimates put the burned area at approximately 1.5 acres.
As investigators work to pinpoint the exact cause, witness statements are forming a key part of the inquiry. Witnesses reported seeing two juveniles on bicycles leaving the scene shortly after flames appeared Thursday afternoon.
"My house is only a hundred feet from where this started," one local homeowner shared with me. "When you look at what happened up on 9th Street last year, you realize how quickly carelessness can turn into total disaster. Watching firefighters work through the heat to hold that line leaves you filled with gratitude, but as a community, we have to do a better job watching out for our neighborhoods."
