💐 HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! 💐
Jochebed: The Mother Who Trusted God
Jochebed was the mother of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, living during one of the darkest periods in Israel’s history. Her story is recorded in Exodus 2:1–10, although her name isn’t identified until later, in Exodus 6:20.
She was a Hebrew woman living under the oppression of Pharaoh, who had ordered that every newborn Hebrew boy be killed in an attempt to weaken God’s people.
In the midst of fear and danger, Jochebed gave birth to Moses. Scripture says that when she saw the child was “fine” or “beautiful,” she hid him for three months (Exodus 2:2).
Hebrews 11:23 later explains that Moses’ parents acted by faith and were not afraid of the king’s command.
Jochebed’s actions were not merely maternal instinct, they were an expression of trust in God, above the fear of man.
When she could no longer hide Moses,
Jochebed made a waterproof basket and placed him among the reeds of the Nile River.
That moment was both heartbreaking and courageous. She released her child into circumstances which she could not control, entrusting him into the hands of God.
What appeared to be an act of surrender
became the very means God used to preserve Moses’ life. In God’s providence, Pharaoh’s daughter found the child and chose to raise him.
Remarkably, Jochebed herself was later called to nurse and care for Moses during his early years. God not only protected Moses, but allowed his own mother to nurture him before he eventually lived in Pharaoh’s household.
Jochebed’s relationship with God is seen through quiet, but courageous faith.
Scripture never records long speeches from her, yet her actions reveal deep trust in God’s sovereignty. She lived under oppression, uncertainty, and danger, but she chose obedience and faith rather than despair.
Through her courage, God preserved the child
who would later lead Israel out of Egypt.
Jochebed’s story reminds us that God often works powerfully through ordinary acts of faithfulness. A mother protecting her child became part of God’s larger plan of redemption for an entire nation.
❓What Can We Learn from Jochebed?
🔸Faith often requires courage in fearful circumstances.
🔸Trusting God does not remove danger, but it places our lives in His sovereign hands.
🔸God can use ordinary acts of obedience for extraordinary purposes.
🔸Parents have a profound spiritual influence on the next generation.
🔸Sometimes faith means surrendering what we love most to God’s care.
“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months by his parents…and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.”
— Hebrews 11:23 NKJV
🌷🌷 Happy Mother’s Day to the women who continue to trust God with their children, their fears, and their future.
