The last two days of our peace pilgrimage have been quite an experience! Tuesday, we took Canadian Canoes (kayaks) down the beautiful Barrow River, which is the second largest river in Ireland. Some parts of the river were challenging and some people capsized but in the end it was very rewarding. After that we went to a beautiful river side café and explored the town which had a cemetery with Protestant ruins and a little further we found a hope well. The next day, we started out visiting Signacare, a lovely nursing home where we sang songs, prayed together, and chatted with some of the Irish residents. After, we went on the Coumshigaun mountain hike to a glacier lake. It was difficult, but beautiful and very worth the hardship. Some of the kids (and adults) even got into the freezing water! After all the fun, we had a lovely Eucharist by the lake led by Father Charles. Dinner the last two evenings we got to enjoy Italian and an Indian family style meal. We travel home on Thursday, wish us luck.

Last night, we said our farewells to our host, John and his daughter, Lisa. We are incredibly grateful for your prayers, support, and love as we went to Ireland to learn the ways of peace from the Irish. ☘️

On Monday, June 15, our peace pilgrims visited Dunbrody Abbey where they learned some of the history of its original purpose and the reformation during King Henry’s time that led to its abandonment. Next they visited Hook lighthouse (the oldest still operating in the world) that was about the height of a blue whale and learned about the different roles that operated it and its origins. Finally, they took a trip down to the Irish Sea side where our pilgrims walked in the sand, some put their feet in, others found sea glass and enjoyed the peaceful view.

In our first three days of our peace pilgrimage, we are having a rich time in Southeast Ireland. We have learned about Celtic Christianity, the Potato Famine, and tensions between the Irish and the English dating back to the 11th century. Today, we worshipped at Christ Cathedral (dating back to the 800s) in Waterford and enjoyed some free time in the afternoon.

What a send-off! It was a joyful, and bittersweet, Sunday at St. Andrew's as we bid farewell to our Priest Associate, the Rev. Connie Jones, as she prepares to move to Richmond. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate Connie and to all of our volunteers for making the day so special!

We were thrilled to join friends from across the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia for last night's Pride Eucharist at Christ & Saint Luke's Episcopal Church. Fr. Charles gave a joyful and inspirational sermon - give it a watch!
