Their fear got so big because of their assumptions.

The storm was close, but so was Jesus.

The disciples weren't imagining danger.
The wind was real.
The waves were real.
Their fear was valid.

Many of our fears come from real threats:
Death
Job loss
Infertility
How our kids will turn out
These aren't imaginary storms

So often our fears get the best of us when we have an undersized understanding of Jesus.

We want Him to show up and tell our storms to be still.
But can we let Jesus be Jesus?

He may not calm our storms right away
But Jesus is in our boat.

Is Jesus swayed by who you say He is?

Jesus asked His disciples, "Who do you say I am?"

Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, Son of the living God."

But what does that actually mean?

Messiah: A Hebrew word. In Greek it would be Christ (not a last name) and in English it means anointed one. It means chosen and sent by God.

Son of: sharing the nature or character of, comes with given authority, belonging to.

The Living God: that brings separation from the lifeless idols they had, and we still have.

Things such as money that can't save us, success that cannot satisfy us, approval that comes and goes, and politics that overpromise and underdeliver.

The question still stands.
Who do you say Jesus is?
Your answer matters.

Jesus is building His Church!

Everyone has an opinion about Jesus. Friends. Neighbors. Coworkers. Everyone. Opinions formed, maybe by the Bible, but more than likely how they see His followers live out their faith.

This morning we were reminded of how God desires unity between us. That we all have storms in our lives and even when we don’t see a way through, we can trust that God is in our boat with us.
