In week 5 of our series the Gospel of Luke we finish out chapter 4.

Jesus empowered by the Holy Spirit leaves the temptation in desert and ministers to the region of Galilee. He is then invited to his hometown of Nazareth to preach and teach. Jesus reads from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah, proclaims the promises of the messiah in that scripture and tells his hometown that he is the fulfillment of these things.

We see the reaction. They do not see Jesus as the messiah, they only see him as Jesus of Nazareth and nothing more. Jesus reminds them of the scripture regarding Elijah and the widow of Zeraphath and the scripture about Elisha and Naaman of Syria. This was a stark reminder that the truth is the truth whether they chose to believe it and that a reminder that God is going move no matter what. They can choose not to have faith, but if they do God will move on and bless those that will choose.

In response Nazareth cries blasphamy and chased Jesus to a cliff to throw him off. Jesus walked through the crowd and right out of the town. The rest of the chapter we see Jesus ministry in Capernaum and see them recievice in faith. We see all the miracles, healihgs and blessings that Nazareth had missed out on.

In week 4 we take a look at the first couple of verses of chapter 4 which focus on the 40 days after Jesus's baptizm also known as the Temptation in the Desert.

We break down each of these three temptations and focus on the lessons Jesus was teaching us as well as the applications to our life. We fight a spritual battle daily yet we have the tools and authority to always win this battle. Walk through these lessons and learn how to walk in that authority.

In week 3 of our series the Gospel of Luke we look at Jesus the Son of God/Son of Man as we go through chapter 3.

There is an overall theme of connection in this chapter as it starts off with the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River by John. Jesus was spotless and sinless and had no need to be baptized, yet he did. Why? So that he can identify with and connect to the sinner. He did not for himself but for us.

This chapter also ends with Luke's geneology and we see how it differs from the one found in the gospel of Matthew. One of the most significant differences is that Luke traces Jesus all the way back to Adam the first man and it shows the deep connection that Jesus has to each and every one of us.

In week of of our series on the Gospel of Luke we look at chapter 2 which is the Birth of the King.

We dive into the historic background and circumstances behind the Christmas story we all know and love. Examining the details and clues that Luke gives us.

This chapter also looks at some of the significant events in Jesus's early life including two visits to the temple. Once when he was a month old and we see two people speak over him showing the great things that are to come. The second when Jesus was twelve and it previews what a great teacher he will be.

We also see the key words repeated over and over in this chapter that "Mary treasured these thing in her heart". It is a reminder of the gratitude and fond memories Mary must have had when she reflected on the birth of Jesus. It is a reminder for us to also have the same attitude of gratitude as we go into this holiday season.
