Congregation Shir Shalom

Congregation Shir Shalom Welcome to Congregation Shir Shalom. Regardless of your background, we invite you to join us.

There’s a new and dynamic synagogue in Rockland County: Congregation Shir Shalom! Congregation Shir Shalom came into being on July 1, 2021, as a result of the consolidation of Montebello Jewish Center and Nanuet Hebrew Center, two like-minded Conservative Jewish synagogues. Congregation Shir Shalom utilizes a self-directed (voluntary commitment) pledge structure rather than relying on a traditiona

l dues model for affiliation. This enables us to be more open and inclusive regardless of financial or personal situation. We further strive to be welcoming to all, including the unaffiliated, intermarried families, those with special needs and the LGBTIQA+ community. We are a multi-generational, egalitarian congregation with 300+ families, and are centrally located in New City, NY, just off Exit 10 of the Palisades Parkway. Regardless of your background, our doors are open, and we encourage you to join us for our services and programs. Makom, our religious school, offers an innovative curriculum and experiential program from “Free Pre-K through 2nd Grade” up through Bar/Bat Mitzvah age. Congregation Shir Shalom also offers award winning CenterRock USY and Kadima Youth Groups, adult education and programs, a vibrant and active Sisterhood and Men’s Club, Hazak Group (for 65+), weeknight and Sunday morning and evening minyans, and Shabbat and holiday services. We invite you to visit us in person and become part of our extended family. You are always welcome at Congregation Shir Shalom, your synagogue home! Please let us know if you would like more information on affiliation, to sign up for our weekly email newsletter, or to assist with any other questions you may have. Rabbi Paul Kurland

Join us for a vital evening where we look at the work of Federation in the year just passed and the year ahead, and hear from world-renowned advocate Jonny Daniels as he shares his insights into the strength of the Jewish people, the resilience of Israel, and the fight against antisemitism. We'll also recognize the wisdom and commitment of our outgoing leadership.

Jonny Daniels is the founder of "From the Depths", a powerful nonprofit committed to preserving Holocaust memory and restoring forgotten Jewish heritage across Europe. A former IDF paratrooper and senior adviser in the Israeli government, he brings bold leadership to the intersection of remembrance, diplomacy, and justice. Through global media, public speaking, and courageous outreach—he works to build bridges, challenge silence, and honor the past with action.

Light refreshments will be served. Kashrut observed. Register below:

Shavuot, the "Festival of Weeks" commemorates the giving of the Torah to the Israelites at Mount Sinai and marks the end of the 7-week "Counting of the Omer", concluding the barley harvest and beginning the wheat harvest.

Shavuot starts this upcoming Thursday evening, May 21st and typically is celebrated with extensive Torah study, reading the Book of Ruth, decorating with greenery and eating dairy meals (such as cheesecake, blintzes, ice cream, etc.). We are happy to provide our Congregation Shir Shalom Shavuot Schedule, or click here to download or print it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/121wMKIyUkqqznsgbo4NB84TT40SvgtQg/view?usp=sharing
