In Session 3 of the Cornerstone Church History Conference, Keith Foskey will preach from Jude 1:1-4 and help us think carefully about the faith delivered to the Church.

• Understanding theological triage
• Definitional, denominational, and disputable doctrines
• The importance of creeds and confessions
• Examples of essential doctrines throughout church history

Theological Development in the Medieval Period

How did medieval theology develop, and how did those developments shape the church for generations?

In Session 2 of the Cornerstone Church History Conference, Keith Foskey will lead us through several important theological developments and controversies from the medieval period.

We’ll explore:

• The expansion of extra-biblical doctrines and practices, including prayers to Mary and the saints, veneration of relics, the rosary, holy water, indulgences, transubstantiation, and justification
• The Iconoclast Controversy
• The teachings of Thomas Aquinas

VOICES FROM CHURCH HISTORY: JAN HUS

Long before the Protestant Reformation, Jan Hus was calling for biblical faithfulness and speaking against corruption within the medieval church.

A Bohemian preacher and reformer, Hus emphasized the authority of Scripture and boldly preached what he believed to be true. After refusing to recant teachings he maintained were consistent with Scripture, he was condemned at the Council of Constance and executed in 1415.

His life reminds us that the story of reform did not begin in 1517. Calls for biblical faithfulness and church reform had been sounding for generations.

Ever wished you could have walked with Jesus in the first century and seen him face to face? Believers today have something greater. In that day, Christ lived amongst his people. But now, by his Spirit, he lives in his people. He comes and indwells each one who is his. What a glorious thought.

We like to picture Jesus as endlessly mild. But at the temple, the Son of God appears with a whip. Tables crash, coins scatter, animals flee. He declares with divine authority: stop making my Father's house a place of business. This is not a temper tantrum. It is the public unveiling of the Messiah's zeal for pure worship.
