August has a strange quiet to it. Summer is winding down, everyone is getting ready for fall, and if you are grieving it can feel like the world moved on and forgot to tell you.

It did not. You are just on a different clock than everyone else right now.

We have been quietly improving the Garden of Gethsemane here at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.

New drainage is now in place to keep this section healthy, green, and easy to visit for years to come.

Over the next few weeks, the ground will settle, and next month we will till and reseed, so everything comes back fuller than before.

So please pardon our mess in the meantime.

If you visit and notice a bare patch or some freshly worked soil, that is what you are looking at, and it will not be there for long.

Thank you for your patience while the new grass takes root. Caring for this place, and for the families who trust us with it, is something we take to heart.

That happens more often than people think, and there is nothing wrong with it. It usually just means nobody offered another option.
