Huayan Buddhism arose in the sixth century in China with its roots in the Flower Garland (Huayan) Sutra. Huayan is relational, practical, and positive. Its emphasis on interdependence, celebration of the sensual world, social engagement, and diversity of people and practices has much to offer during this era when many folks see ever-deepening divisions. Ben recently published the book that will be used for the class; this is a wonderful opportunity to explore it with him. At our regular gathering next Tuesday, we will hold zazen (meditation) and then a memorial service for lives taken in Minneapolis and around our country and world, and for all those beings suffering in our world right now. We will acknowledge our grief and also renew our vow to help bring about a free world, where all beings may live in safety and ease.

All are welcome.

"On our own, without a community, we cannot do much. We need a community of like-minded friends and colleagues to help us realize our deepest dreams... Our community can become a source of support and a place of refuge for many people. We nourish our community in our lifetime, and it carries us forward into the future."
-Thich Nhat Hanh (The Art of Living)

On this fourth anniversary of his transition, we remember our dear teacher and the many lives he touched. May we carry his teachings forward into the future as his community.
