Evening Reflection 9/7/26

Psalm 18:31-32 - "For who is God, but the Lord?
And who is a rock, except our God?—
32 the God who equipped me with strength
and made my way blameless."

Who is God? He is the Lord!

Who is our rock? It is God!

What does He do? He gives me strength?

What else does He do? He makes my way blameless!

Can anyone else do this? NO!

Evening Reflection 9/6/26

Ecclesiastes 1:12-14 - "I the Preacher have been king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom all that is done under heaven. It is an unhappy business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. 14 I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind."

Our time on earth is often consumed by working to get ahead, working to provide our spouses and children with better opportunities, working to achieve promotions, working to buy shiny new things, working, working, working with a focus on earthly things...

There is nothing wrong with trying to provide for our families, however, if that providing does not include spiritual opportunities and nourishment we are working in vain!

Solomon contends in chapter 1 of Ecclesiastes that our striving for advancement and fulfillment on this earth is an exercise in futility and vanity. it is "striving after the wind." Imagine trying to grasp the wind in your hands. It is impossible and futile to spend any time trying to do it. If we search for fulfillment with the temporary and corruptible things of this world, it is the same thing as trying to catch the wind in our hands. We will never find fulfillment in anything but God. Let us not be caught up in the vanity of vanities. Let us search for purpose through God our Creator!

Evening Reflection 9/5/26

Matthew 11:28 - "Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest."

Have you ever felt absolutely beat down? So tired and exhausted you can't even lift your head up? During those times the exhaustion is so much more than being physically tired; its an exhaustion that reaches into your soul. Lifting your arms is tough enough...lifting your spirits and attitude are virtually impossible. It's in those times that Jesus says come to Him. The rest that can restore our soul-heavy weariness can only be found in Him. The next verse goes on to say that by coming to Him we can take His burden on, implying He will take on our's, and that His burden is light. What a savior! What love He has for us! So, in those times when all seems lost; in those times when the world is just too heavy to bear; in those times when we struggle to lift our heads and our spirits; our only source of comfort and rest is Jesus, the Christ! Let us all go to Him! Amen.

Evening Reflection 9/4/26

Psalm 117 - "Praise the Lord, all nations!
Extol him, all peoples!
2 For great is his steadfast love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord!"

I am commanded to praise God. You are commanded to praise God! Everyone is commanded to praise God!

The word praise comes from the Hebrew word halal and means to shine, make a show and to boast. We are to boast about what God does for us. How often do we say so that others can hear, "My God does this for me," or "My God did this for all of us?" Let us boast about God. Let us boast about his power and glory!

The word extol comes from the Hebrew word shabach and means to address in a loud tone. So when we are boasting and making a show about who and what God is, we are do to is so that all can hear. Let us never allow the world around us to silence our praise of God! Let us never allow the silence of the unGodly to mute our praise of God. Why? Because great is His steadfast love toward us and His faithfulness endures forever!

Evening Reflection 9/3/26

1 Peter 1:3-4 - "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you..."

Our spiritual inheritance (completely undeserved and granted only through grace and mercy) is one that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. Let's take a brief look at those descriptors.

Imperishable - The Greek word here means will not decay and immortal. To be specific, it is more than just will not decay...it is incapable of decay. God has made us a home in heaven that is not able to be corrupted. It is perfect and permanent!

Undefiled - The Greek word here means unsoiled and pure. More specifically it has nothing in is that causes defilement or corruption. God has made us a home in heaven that is completely pure and has not one iota of imperfection!

Unfading - The Greek word here means perpetual. More specifically it is exempt from the swift withering mairaino which is the portion of all the loveliness springing out of an earthly root. For example, a flower is something of great beauty but fades away. The flower's beauty is short-lived, fades away, and dies quickly. In contrast, God has made us a home in heaven whose beauty is perpetual! It will never fade away or fail!

Our home in heaven is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading! How wonderful heaven will be!

Evening Reflection 9/2/26

2 Corinthians 5:7 - "...for we walk by faith, not by sight."

Imagine telling someone that the confidence with which they walk forward is better if they close their eyes or ignore the visual input. They would probably laugh at us. Yet, this is what Paul is saying to Christians in his 2nd letter to the Corinthians. As Christians, the visual can often give us false input regarding spiritual matters. That is why we must allow ourselves to be guided by our faith and not by sight. Faith will allow us to see the righteous path that may seem cluttered with roadblocks and impassable when we look at it with our "earthly eyes." Let us all be guided by faith!

Evening Reflection 9/1/26

Joshua 1:9 - "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”"

God is with us! God is with us everywhere! God is with us everywhere we go! There are times in our lives when we encounter new contexts:
- New jobs
- New cities
- New schools
- New countries

No matter what it is or where it is, God is with us! The result if us realizing He is with us is that we should be strong and courageous and should not be frightened or dismayed. So, when we start something new, let us be strong and courageous because God is with us!

Evening Reflection 8/31/26

2 Tim. 3:16-17 - "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[a] may be complete, equipped for every good work."

We all understand the concept of treating something valuable with the utmost respect, seriousness, and protection. When someone gives us something valuable we do everything we can to protect it and watch over it constantly. Scripture, all scripture, is given to us by God. One of the many implications of this verse is that not a single scripture should be wasted. Even those that step on our toes and tell us something that we really don't want to hear. If all scripture originates from God (and it does!), then we must not waste a single sentence, a single word! Scripture is valuable because it comes from God and because it helps us by teaching us, reproofing us, correcting us, and training us for righteousness so that we may be complete and equipped for every good work.

Evening Reflextion 8/30/26

Mark 2:1-5 - “And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the word to them. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.””

How far would you go because of your faith? How far would you go to help someone else because of your faith? These men lowered their paralyzed friend through a roof. BUT they first had to get on top of the roof and lift the paralyzed man on top as well. THEN they had to uncover and break through the roof (v. 4). THEN they had to lower him down. Jesus commended them all in THEIR faith. What a great example to us. So when our faith is so small that it won’t even let us do one little thing, let us remember those whom Jesus commended for their faith.

Evening Reflection 8/29/26

1 Thessalonians 5:1-5 - "Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers,[a] you have no need to have anything written to you. 2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. 5 For you are all children[b] of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness."

The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night...completely unexpected. The only way to prepare for that is to be ready EVERY SINGLE DAY. We cannot be like those who say things seem peaceful, it will be ok tonight. We need to be prepared every single day in order to not be surprised when Jesus comes. What does that look like? It looks like constant, consistent obedience, day in and day out. It looks like not being distracted by this world and keeping our focus on our heavenly home. Let us all remain vigilant for our Lord to return!
