God of history and of all nations, lead those who hunger and thirst only for power in our world to be sent away empty, and give justice and mercy to all who cry out for it. Bring healing to any who find themselves required to oppose the forces of evil in our midst. Inspire us nonetheless to find novel ways to live in peace. Nurture our creativity in building bridges and finding new solutions to old problems. Let us honor the sacrifice of those who fought for good by working toward the day when swords will be beaten into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks. Amen.
