Every summer, our church hallways fill with a chaotic, beautiful symphony of laughter, spilled juice, and high-energy worship songs. It’s easy to look at Vacation Bible School and see nothing more than a whirlwind of crafts and games, but beneath the controlled chaos lies a profound, kingdom-building mission. When we ask, "Why VBS?", the answers are woven deeply into the fabric of Scripture. We do this because Jesus explicitly commanded, "Let the little children come to me," rebuking anyone who stood in their way (Mark 10:14). We do this because God’s blueprint for faith has always been an intentional, everyday discipleship—impressing His commandments upon the next generation when we sit at home and when we walk along the road (Deuteronomy 6:6-7). VBS is our collective promise to not hide the truths of God from our youth, but to "tell to the generation to come the praises of the Lord" (Psalm 78:4). Ultimately, this energetic week isn't just a summertime tradition; it is the frontline of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19), a vital launching pad where we go and make disciples of our very youngest, ensuring the gospel continues to echo loudly in the hearts of the next generation.
