Our Lord Jesus wants His followers to live in obedience to His will: "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:20a). Our Lord is with us in every step of our pilgrimage, granting us His grace unto obedience. "I am with you always…through whom we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith" (Matthew 28:20b and Romans 1:51). This is also the way that Jesus lived here on earth in relationship with His heavenly Father. "And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him." The Father was with the Son, as the Son lived to please the Father.

Jesus came to earth to live in humble dependence upon, and full obedience to, the Father. "And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross" (Philippians 2:8). Even though obedience led to the cross, Jesus obeyed the will of the Father. In the garden of Gethsemane, the obedient Son wrestled with the implications and impact of the impending cross. The holy, eternal One was to drink the cup of sin and death for all of us. His entire being was repulsed by that which was so contrary to His nature. "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death…O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me" (Matthew 26:38-39). Yet, He obediently yielded to the Father's will. "Nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will" (Matthew 26:39b). This is the ultimate example of obedience.

This same Jesus (who always pleased the Father, even unto death) now lives in us. This same Jesus is our "hope of glory." He is our hope (expectation, confidence) of making it to glory (heaven) some day. He is also our hope of walking in any heavenly reality here on the way to glory. He is our hope of an obedient life.

Obedience is essentially related to the life of Jesus. The life Jesus lived on earth is our perfect example of obedience. The life He now wants to live in and through us is our glorious hope of obedience.

Strength for the Weary Prayer
O Lord my God, thank you that you know my every need. You have promised that you will give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak. Please help me to draw on your strength as I feel weak, to receive your healing when I feel pain and to know your comfort in the midst of my distress. You are the God of endurance and encouragement. Help me to live in perfect harmony with you and glorify you with my thoughts, words and deeds. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Mother of Three Dies in Petal Floodwaters Amid Family’s Ongoing Cancer Battle

A Lamar County family already facing an unimaginable medical battle is now mourning another heartbreaking tragedy after 36-year-old Rachael Floyd died in floodwaters in Petal on Monday afternoon.

According to confirmation from the coroner and investigators, Floyd died after the vehicle she was driving was swept into a culvert and submerged near 100 Eastbrook Commons during flash flooding conditions.

Petal Police Department and Petal Fire Department responded to the scene.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Pine Belt community, where many know the Floyd family through church, counseling, friendships, and community ties.

An official told HPNM that shortly before the incident, Rachael had dropped off the couple’s three young sons at her mother’s home in Petal. She left her own vehicle there so the children would have access to car seats, and she then departed in her mother’s vehicle — the same vehicle involved in the flooding tragedy.

Rachael leaves behind her husband, Ben Floyd, and their three young children: Joshua, 4, Gilead, 2, and Mayhew, 1.

The family had already been navigating an overwhelming crisis after Ben Floyd was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer identified as a high-grade astrocytoma with piloid features in his cerebellum.

Ben, a self-employed therapist in Hattiesburg, is known by many throughout the Pine Belt for helping individuals and families through difficult emotional and personal struggles. Friends describe him as compassionate, deeply empathetic, and someone who “never made anyone feel unseen.”

A community fundraiser had previously been established to help the Floyd family as Ben underwent treatment and was unable to consistently work due to his diagnosis. A link to that fundraiser is in the comments.

Now, in the wake of Rachael’s sudden death, friends, family members, and supporters across the Pine Belt are rallying around the family once again.

Sunday’s severe weather and flash flooding created dangerous conditions across portions of South Mississippi, with emergency responders answering multiple weather-related calls throughout the area.

As the Floyd family faces the devastating days ahead, many in the community are remembering Rachael not only as a wife and mother, but as part of a family that has touched countless lives across the Pine Belt.

Memorial Day Service
" Romans 5:2-5 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."

Malachi 3:10
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows."

Jesus was God’s first fruits—his one and only son, and the best that humanity had to offer. God gave Jesus, who was raised from the dead, up for us, in the same way that we sacrifice the best we have for him.

What did God say if we brought Him the first fruits?
God told them that if they brought their first fruits to him, he would bless all that came afterward.

Prayer is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith, serving as a means of communication with God. To "pray with purpose" means to engage in prayer with intentionality, focus, and a clear understanding of one's spiritual goals. This approach to prayer emphasizes the importance of aligning one's requests and expressions with God's will, seeking His guidance, and fostering a deeper relationship with Him.
