St. John's Montclair

St. John's Montclair St. John's is a vibrant, welcoming faith community, known for radical hospitality, inclusion, and pro All are welcome. Sunday worship at 8 & 10 a.m.

Located in Montclair at the corner of Montclair Avenue and Chestnut Streets, we strive to live out our name, that we might truly be sharers of the Good News. It doesn’t matter to us whether you’ve never been to church before, have been away for a while or might be a longtime Episcopalian. It doesn’t matter to us that you might be from another Christian tradition, from another faith altogether, or

might simply be seeking a place of peace. Some people know us from our community outreach. Others attend meetings in our building, enjoy our gardens or take advantage of parish programs. Many come for our celebration of the Holy Eucharist—every week Holy Eucharist is celebrated on Sunday. Our goal is to continue building a community that is diverse and loving, filled with celebration and joy. Join us when you can and help us continue to welcome all.

Montclair’s Pride Festival may be postponed until October, but it is still Pride Month! This year we made Q***r Saint cards, highlighting some beacons of faith in the LGBTQIA community. Our list is just a start - who would you add?

Check out the cards, along with some stickers and pins in the Narthex. And our “Jesus is my biggest fan” fans will be available all summer long!

On Sunday we had the joy of honoring Beverly Vollaro at the Diocesan David P. Hegg II Lifetime Achievement Awards. Please join us in congratulating Bev and thanking her for the many ways she blesses this community.

In the more than 30 years Bev has been a member of St. John’s she has served and supported numerous committees and St. John’s events with her signature style of love, skill and grace. She may be small in stature, but her generosity, dedication, and humor are mighty. We have all reaped the benefits of this special lady whether it was her time on the Vestry and as Warden, or serving on the Search, Finance, Stewardship or Outreach Committees, often in a leading role. Bev has always been front and center for our fund raisers, Tag Sales, and at our Spring and Fall Clean-Up days. Whether she is ushering, hosting coffee hour, or delivering donated jackets to the 4Cs at Christmas, her dedication to St. John’s and those in need is admirable. Bev is the embodiment of kindness and love, and we are so very fortunate to call her one of our own and recognize and applaud her many years of unflagging service.

St. John’s is excited to partner with Java's Compost to launch a new community compost drop-off site on our campus. For $20 a month, community members can drop off up to two bags of food scraps per week, including items not typically compostable at home, such as meat scraps and many paper products. As people of faith, we are called to care for God’s creation, and composting is a simple, practical way to live that commitment each week. To learn more, join us for the information session. All are welcome.

Pride is a reminder of a truth we hold year-round: q***r and trans people are beloved by God, and your presence, gifts, and stories help to make our community whole.
We are so excited our new banner came just in time for Pride and a wedding for two radiant brides. Talk about divine timing! It has been such a joy to work with and to reimagine how we share the goodness we have found in Jesus and the St John’s community with the world.

What a joy to welcome Bishop Hughes to St. John's this past Sunday! We are grateful for the opportunity we had to practice sharing our faith with one another, and to be reminded that our stories and experiences can help others feel seen, encouraged, and draw closer to God.
