We had a full Sunday at First Lutheran Church!

Before worship, we packed 100 lunches. These will be handed out at this weekend’s mutual aid fair in Olathe.

During worship, our youngest members offered their ideas for how we can share God’s love with everyone we meet. They had ideas like feeding people, checking on people who seem sad or lonely, and making people laugh. They also decorated signs proclaiming God’s love for all. You’ll find those signs on our front doors!

After worship, a group of FLC folks headed over to Colonial Church for their Pride Month event, “Live & Learn About Finding Q***r Joy.” This event featured a member of our faith community, Dudley Hogue, as he shared some of his powerful story.

Thanks be to God for this community of faith! We serve together, we worship together, and we work together to make this world a place that better reflects the love of God.

We made a joyful noise at this morning’s jazz service to kick off Pride Month!

Through the stories of the Ethiopian eu**ch and Canaanite woman, we were reminded of God’s expansive love.

God’s love defies expectations, breaks down binaries, and moves us into deep relationships with our neighbors!

Join us for Sunday School after tomorrow’s worship service!

This month’s Sunday School activity is a service project. We’ll decorate lunch sacks to be filled on June 14th for the upcoming mutual aid fair to benefit our immigrant neighbors.

Tomorrow will be a special day as we celebrate Pride Month, make a joyful noise with our worship band, and serve together! You’re invited!

First Lutheran Church, along with Peggy’s Pantry, Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church, Saint Andrew Christian Church, and Resurrection West, collected food and cleaning products for El Centro and Center of Grace this weekend.

We also hosted a fantastic group of Boots on the Ground volunteers this afternoon to sort everything so it can be dropped off this week.

This is what it looks like to love our neighbors!

FLC will continue to collect donations in our bin by the front door. Needed items include black beans, rice, maseca (corn flour), canned tuna/meat, dried fruit, fruit cups, granola bars, trail mix, laundry detergent, dish soap, deodorant, paper towel, and toilet paper.

Today was a special day at First Lutheran Church!

One of our confirmation students publicly affirmed his faith and committed to living out our baptismal vows of living among God’s faithful people, hearing the word of God, sharing in the Lord’s supper, proclaiming the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, following the example of Jesus by serving all people, and striving for justice and peace in all the earth.

Confirmation students also participated in the service by suggesting petitions for our intercessory prayers, reading today’s Bible stories, and ushering. We are so proud of these students!

You’re invited to worship with us at First Lutheran Church tomorrow as we celebrate the Day of Pentecost! We’ll also be confirming one of our wonderful young students.

Members of this year’s confirmation class helped shape tomorrow’s intercessory prayers and will also be serving in different worship roles.

Following the service, we’ll have cake and other treats! We hope to see you there.

Confirmation students, parents, and grandparents spent some time picking up litter around MLK Park today!

Our students selected a park clean-up as their confirmation service project because they care about creation and ensuring young kids have safe places to play.

Our students are asked each month if they have any suggestions for the intercessory prayers we say every week in worship. The most common response has something to do with creation. Our students have invited us to pray for specific at-risk animals as well as for solutions to climate change. By selecting this service project, they’re modeling for our whole church how prayer can move us to act!

Join us for intergenerational Sunday School this Sunday (5/3)!

We’ll gather in the library after worship for a snack and a Bible story. We’ll also go on a scavenger hunt as we explore where Jesus is at work in the world!

Sunday School is open to all who would like to participate!
