As we move through this Season of Creation, we’ll hear the story of God creating the world during each children’s message.
This week, we remembered that creation is a gift!
We unwrapped our present, but it didn’t look like creation at first: no water, no sky, no plants, no animals. Someone said, “It’s just…space!”
That’s how it was in the beginning, we remembered. “When God began to create the heavens and the earth, the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep.”
And then God said, “Let there be light!” And there was light and there was dark. There was day and there was night. And God was at work in it all. Everything God made was good. That was the first day.
Next, God said, “Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters and let it separate the waters from the waters.” God called the dome “sky.” Again, everything God made was good. That was the second day.
We paused our story until next week when we’ll learn about days three and four.
As our young people reminded us today, when we receive a gift we say, “Thank you.” We celebrate! We cherish and take care of it.
All season long we’ll give thanks for creation, we’ll celebrate God as Creator, and we’ll remember our call to care for the earth.
