Today, Ash Wednesday, the Church marks the beginning of Lent — a 40-day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

calls us not only to give something up, but to turn our hearts more fully toward the Lord:
We seek the Lord in prayer and by reading Sacred Scripture.
We serve by giving alms.
We practice self-control through fasting.

As we receive ashes today, we remember our baptism and renew our commitment to follow Christ more faithfully. May this season be a time of true inner conversion of heart. ✝️

Pope Leo XIV has called all Catholics to a day of prayer and fasting for world peace on Friday, August 22—the Feast of the Coronation of Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth.
