This season of Lent we will be preaching from the Psalms, but also our Bible study on Tuesday nights will be on Psalm 22, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me…” Bible study is at 7pm on Tuesdays in-person at church and via Zoom. Come reflect on the Psalms with us this Lent.

The imposition of ashes is not an attempt to humiliate, nor do they indicate a lack of worth or value in the human person. Rather, ashes are a sign of beginning and transition; of natality. A sign that indicates the beginning of repentance. Ashes are the sign of the beginning of a holy lent. We worshiped at St Paul’s this morning. Other Ash Wednesday services will be held at noon at St Michael of All Angels, and 7pm at the Cathedral of St James in South Bend. Hope to see you there.

View from our memorial garden this morning. The cold has created a layer of ice that nearly covers the whole of the St Joseph, and snow gently and peacefully sits on top of what would usually over power it and destroy it, a rushing river. But today on the surface, what is vulnerable is made safe, what sits peacefully remains distinct from the chaotic. Is the river still rushing? Sure it is. But the life of these minuscule and insignificant snowflakes is protected, at least for now, from the fast unceasing and unrelenting St Joe.

For our pet blessing today, Aimee, who is a bat scientist, asked me to bless a symbolic bat. I guess it’s better than her bringing in a real one!
