We’re excited to welcome some familiar faces back to Ascension this Sunday, May 31! Pastor Phil Johnson and René will be returning to worship at Ascension, and Pastor Phil will be our guest preacher at both the 8am and 10am services.

Before Pastor Pete arrived at Ascension, Pastor Phil faithfully served as Ascension’s interim pastor.

The Church Council will also be providing special treats during Coffee Hour between worship services — so come enjoy some fellowship, refreshments, and a chance to reconnect.

Day Camp will take place at Ascension on the evenings of July 19–22, with lively music, fun games, Bible stories, crafts, skits, supper, and lots of energy from the amazing staff of Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp.

🌲 NEW THIS YEAR! 🌲The final day of Day Camp (July 23) will be an actual DAY AT CAMP! Campers will travel by bus to Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp in Crystal Falls, MI — about 80 miles from Minocqua — for a special camp experience together.

Sunday, May 24 is Pentecost Sunday!

Come celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit being poured out upon God’s people. During worship, there will be a special candle-lighting opportunity for everyone in attendance. Together, we’ll celebrate the light of Christ and the Spirit alive and at work among us.

You’re also invited to wear something red to worship if you’d like! Red is the traditional color of Pentecost, symbolizing the fire, energy, and movement of the Holy Spirit.

See you at 8am or 10am! The 10am worship service will also be live streamed.

In May, Ascension celebrated Confirmation – not once, but twice!

On May 3, five youth affirmed their faith through the Rite of Confirmation… and on May 17, one more young person said “yes” to God’s promises through Holy Baptism. Through the gift of technology (and a little photo editing), we were able to bring the whole crew together in one picture!

Congratulations to Ascension’s Confirmation Class of 2026! God’s blessings be with each of you as you continue to grow in faith and share Christ’s love with the world.

A little “touch of gold elegance” for a night celebrating some truly golden people in our community. ✨

It was a fun evening recognizing businesses, non-profits, and individuals who help make the Northwoods such a special place to live. We loved seeing so many familiar faces — including ministries that Ascension supports and helps lead (like Hope in a Backpack) being nominated for awards!

And when the event suggested attendees wear “a touch of gold elegance”… Pastor Pete and Ascension’s Church Operations Director, Nicole, followed the instructions. 😄

From sparkly shoes… to shiny jackets… to a wonderful evening celebrating our community — congratulations to all the nominees and winners!
