πŸ“… Mark your calendars!

The Iowa Presbyterian Gathering is coming up on Saturday, August 29 at Ames Northminster, and we don't want you to miss it.

This year's theme, Seeking the Mind of Christ at the Crossroads (Philippians 2:5-11), invites us to gather, listen, and discern together as the body of Christ in Iowa.

More details to come. For now, save the date and start spreading the word!

What a beautiful example of the church caring for its neighbors! πŸ±πŸ’›

The First Presbyterian Church Mission Team in Jefferson, IA has received a grant from the Presbytery of North Central Iowa to purchase and deliver six lifelike robotic companion cats to residents of Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

These realistic, interactive companions are designed to provide emotional comfort and tactile stimulation for seniors who experience social isolation and loneliness in long-term care settings. With lifelike fur, movement, and sounds like purring and meowing, the cats respond to touch and have already shown the ability to spark conversation, ease anxiety, and brighten daily life.

The initiative was inspired by a deeply personal story. Mission Team member LeAnn Monaghan's mother, after losing her husband who was a Regency Park resident, found tremendous comfort in a robotic companion cat of her own. When she brought it to visit the facility, the response from residents was overwhelming. Her hope is that others might experience that same joy and connection.

We are grateful for the generosity of our presbytery members and the compassionate vision of this mission team. This is love in action. πŸ™
