Many of us can point to people and communities that helped shape who we are. In a recent interview on the UUA’s In Good Faith blog, UUA Director of Congregational Life Natalie Briscoe reflects on the unique role UU congregations can play in helping us find belonging, make meaning, care for one another through life's joys and challenges, and grow into who we are called to be.

At a time when loneliness and disconnection are so common, her reflections offer a reminder of why congregational life matters—and why the communities we build together are sacred.

Congress Must Pass a Farm Bill that works for Farmers, Communities, and the Environment.

The Farm Bill presents an opportunity to support farmers, invest in rural communities, and protect families.

The House Farm Bill will:
🐣 Weaken long-standing protections for ecosystems.
🐣 Strip funding from conservation programs that help farmers combat climate change
🐣 Keep cuts to SNAP that have already put millions of children and families at risk.
🐣 Protect the health, safety, and economic security of farmers and families.

“We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths—that all of us are created equal—is the star that guides us still, just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls and Selma and Stonewall." — Barack Obama, Second Inaugural Address, January 2013

Steadfast. That’s what we must all be in these trying times.

It has never been easy to be a person of progressive faith, especially in a time when Christian Nationalist ideas are so pervasive and religious practice can be manipulated in service to power and greed. Even in these painful times, let us remain steadfast in our Unitarian Universalist identity, confident in our knowing that our covenantal faith and practices, grounded in shared values, offer so much of what is needed to minister to this beautiful and struggling world.

As a people of a freely chosen faith centered on love, what spiritual teachings keep us grounded in the work? What comforts us in times of struggle? What moves us to make room for others’ perspectives and experiences in our own understandings of life? Treasure those resources. Celebrate them for the spiritual development that they offer. Above all else, share them with each other, for we become more than we were when we journey together.

Memorial Day invites many kinds of remembrance.

Today, we hold gratitude and care for all who served in the military, including the many Unitarian Universalists who gave of themselves in service to their country and communities. We honor those who died in war and military service, and the loved ones who carry their memory forward.

We also hold close the immeasurable human cost of violence—lives lost, families changed forever, communities shattered, and generations shaped by grief.

Veterans For Peace calls for a deeper kind of remembrance: one that resists turning this day into a celebration of militarism and instead asks us to reckon honestly with the human cost of war.

At a time when war and suffering continue across the globe, may we remember that every life carries inherent worth and dignity. And may we continue the work of building communities grounded in compassion, justice, and peace.
