📖 A Letter from Archbishop James F. Checchio

As we prepare for the Archdiocese of New Orleans' consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Archbishop Checchio has shared a heartfelt letter inviting all of us to deepen our faith, strengthen our families, and draw closer to Christ.

In his message, the Archbishop reflects on the love and mercy of the Sacred Heart, encourages devotion through prayer, the Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, and vocations, and shares details about the upcoming consecration and home enthronement of the Sacred Heart.

We encourage all parishioners to take a few moments to read this important letter and prayerfully consider how you and your family can participate in this special time of grace for our Archdiocese.

Join Catholics across the Archdiocese of New Orleans tonight, June 4, from 6:00–7:00 PM for an Archdiocesan Holy Hour in all parishes.

This special evening of prayer begins the Novena to the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart and includes prayers for Home Enthronements.

Come spend time with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and unite in prayer with the faithful throughout our Archdiocese. ❤️

Join us for a squeaky clean Carwash Fundraiser this Saturday from 10AM-2PM to support the St. Benilde CYO.

Each car wash is by donation. All proceeds support the CYO Mission Retreat activities, CYO members in need of financial assistance, etc.

Please keep our teens that are volunteering their time to serve our community on Mission Retreat in your prayers and know of our prayers for you!

Please join us in welcoming our Summer Transitional Deacon ✝️

Deacon Michael Jawino was born on September 30, 1998, in the small town of Lugazi in central Uganda. He comes from a humble Catholic family of five siblings and is the third child in the family. At the age of four, he moved with his parents to their ancestral hometown of Tororo. His parents and siblings played a significant role in nurturing his vocation by instilling in him the values of prayer, humility, gratitude, and hard work. Known for being social, outgoing, and eager to learn, Deacon Michael also enjoys watching and playing soccer.

These early influences planted the seed of his vocation to the priesthood. Following elementary school, he entered Nagongera Seminary at the age of 12. Since then, his love for the priesthood and for serving God’s people has continued to grow.

After completing college and a pastoral spiritual year in 2022 and 2023, respectively, Deacon Michael was sent by his bishop to Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans in the summer of 2023 to begin his theological studies. Arriving in the United States for the first time felt like stepping into the unknown, but through God’s grace and the kindness of those he has encountered, he has found a true home away from home.

By the grace of God, Deacon Michael was ordained to the diaconate on Saturday, May 16, at St. Louis Cathedral. He is deeply grateful to receive this special gift of service in the Church and humbly asks for continued prayers as he grows in discernment and remains open to God’s call. He assures all of his prayers and asks God’s abundant blessings upon them.
